>>>There you go, OP. No chance of it being implemented as a site standard, but the addon is right there.
Then again, no one seems to use that, defeating the purpose of it.
Well, it was released less than 48 hours ago so it's not making exceptionally bad progress in terms of widespread use; give it a month or so and it should have a fairly large userbase. I think the script is a pretty fair way to soothe this whole thing; the site will probably not get like buttons (they're really rather superfluous, although there's no reason to say they're a terrible idea), but if you want that system, you can use the script. If you don't, don't. It's an emulation of how it would work if it were implemented, and a good way to experiment; if the like button was implemented, people that wanted it would use it and people that were against it initially (or hated it after it was put in the site) would likely not use it. The script is basically that, except the people who don't want it won't be forced to see it. Win-win.
OT: Well, the fact of that matter is that everyone who says it's a horrible idea is talking out their ass, as is everyone who claims it's a fantastic idea (phrases to look for: "Bnet isn't Facebook" and "stimulate discussion" -- both are frequently used in these arguments. Feel free to ctrl+f). Actually, I believe there was a post on the first page that was probably one of the dumbest I've read in a while, to be frank: "This isn't Facebook or Youtube or Reddit", implying that since this site isn't a site that already has a like button, we shouldn't get one, which doesn't make any sense at all because that would mean that neither Youtube nor Reddit should have had like buttons because Facebook already did when they were created.
On another note, the whole "discussion blah blah" argument is getting kind of old. This is a forum -- there's no science to it. I'd like to hear some peoples' actual reasons why they wouldn't want a like button. Right now all I'm seeing is recycled arguments and I'm kind of intrigued as to what the real negative side is. For instance, "I don't want a like button because I don't think that we need it for a gaming website's forums" is a perfectly legitimate opinion, whereas "yo dis ait yuotub, zeal0t pls" is both vague and logically faulty.
