To be honest, Im really disappointed. This scares me that 343 doesn't have the balls to bring anything new to the table. It seems like they just wanted the elites back as baddies just because it was popular in reach, not because of the story. I'm hopelessly trying not to jump to conclusions, what do you think?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

The Elites are not the main enemy... They're bringing a whole new enemy bigger than the Covenant for us to fight once things kick off.

Having said that, it makes even less sense why they wouldn't just focus on the new enemy when the ending of Halo 3 had a great sense of closure when it came to the relationship between humans and elites.

Well like he said the elites won't be the only enemy( I hope).
i am scared what 343 is going to bring to the table now that bungie is not doing it.

They said, they weren't bringing the flood back, sooo this ancient enemy could be .... Precursors? I'm gonna rage if we get a Jak 3 ending! Lol

Could be Forerunners too, considering the fact that we're on a Forerunner artificial world. Remember that leaked GI Front Cover? "You and whose Forerunner Army?" I think that'll tie in.

So with all these enemy options, I find it ridiculous that 343 has to refer to the elites. Leave them be, they've been through a lot... Halo being destroyed, discarded by their buddies, going through a civil war, why do they need to be kicked in the ass once more by chief?

I thought they are not even the Sangheili(sp) Military but scavengers salvaging what's left of the ship.

The Elites in H4 aren't military, at least not equipped as military, so I'd wager they aren't government. So the Arbiter likely has little to do with them; they could be scavengers, or rebels.

The Elites are splintered, at the moment. Some see the human race as a potential threat to them, since they understand 30 years of genocide doesn't just go away. These Elites would prefer to finish the human race off before we can regain power enough to be the threat they fear. Still other Elites stubbornly hold onto the Forerunner faith, because like genocide, 3,000 years of religious dogma also doesn't just go away.

While other Elites are like the Arbiter. They want peace between humanity and them. So in all likelyhood, the Elites in Halo 4 are a member of the anti-human side of the debate. We could possibly get Arbiter support in H4 from his crew, who knows.

In anycase, there was no chance for the once sworn genocidal enemies of the last 30 years to suddenly hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

From a game perspective, they wanted the player to refamiliarize themselves with the Halo sandbox before tossing in new stuff.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

A problem. Glasslands is set in 2553, Halo 4 is set in 2557. 'Telcam's little group might be gone by then.

Read Halo: Glasslands, you will begin to understand

That book is so full of warmongering tripe and xenophobia, ass-pulled justifications for continued warfare and prejudice, as well as unreasonable generalizations, that it would likely only compound his confusion as to why 343i decided to ruin the closure of Halo 3, re-write the Elite's personality and completely change the direction that Bungie sent the original truce on. That book in all likelihood has been written to give the two species a reason to go back to killing each other, and no matter what it is, it will ruin the closure and slightly invalidate a crucial part of the original trilogy.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I'm not exactly fond of Elites returning as enemies. Hopefully they won't be seen much in battle.
