Well... After playing Halo 2 on Xbox and Halo 2 Vista right after, I noticed something... At first I thought it had to have been just me. That something was wrong. What I found is proof far beyond anything else anyone has found that either Microsoft/Hired Gun are completely ignorant to PC gaming or they were trying to create the worst port of all time with Halo 2 Vista.

Halo 2 Xbox

Halo 2 Vista

Take a second to look at both videos. Go back and forward between them. Find other videos to compare as well... After a while, tell me... Which version has the higher field of view?

When I realized that the Xbox version seriously had a higher field of view my jaw almost dropped to the floor. I laughed at the FoV of Vista before thinking "Oh they were just lazy" but now this... Actively changing the FoV of a port to PC to lower than its console counter-part. Are you -blam!- kidding me?

The Viewmodel FOV is without doubt different in H2V. You can see the difference pretty well in the way the battle rifle is held. In the Xbox version, players have the neck more streched backwards.
As regards FOV instead, after seeing a few videos, I think that the Xbox version has a higher field of view than the PC version.
However, I don't know how Viewmodel FOV and FOV have to be set to make a PC game look like a PC game. It is related to the fact that console gamers play at a higher distance from the screen than PC gamers, isn't it?

The reason higher field of view is important when it comes to play games on the PC is because, on average, we are closer to the screen. Having it set that low causes it to feel unnatural. It essentially feels like you're putting a cardboard box with two open ends on your head to look through. Since most console players sit farther away, the field of view needs to be smaller for it to be natural to them.

Some people (Like me) actually get headaches after playing games with low field of view after a little while. It's incredibly frustrating. Having 90 degrees of vision or having an adjustable slider for field of view is absolutely necessary for some people to actually enjoy the game. I don't care what game it is, I can't truly enjoy it without an appropriate field of view. That goes for Halo: Combat Evolved's default field of view as well.

Here is a video where "TotalBiscuit" goes into detail about why PC gamers need adjustable field of view.

It's funny, I never noticed this until now? I was aware that since Halo 2 the reticule was not in the centre of the screen but I didn't realise the FOV was lower than the Xbox version...but then I play the PC version for higher res graphics alone. Halo 2 Xbox comes out ocassionally for nostalgia only :/.

That explains my eyes burning the last time I tried to play it... whenever that was...

To be honest, I don't think anyone knows how to port a game from consoles to PC anymore. Hell, porting in general is often bad.

They got Halo 1 close enough (besides the netcode) that a few patches and side applications fixed everything.

Halo 2... you can't do much of anything with Halo 2.

I wish. HPC/HCE are nowhere near being closed to well-ported products, even if you include the community made tools.

Yep. Neither should really even be called proper PC games. Halo 2 Vista is just so badly ported that people in this community always compare Halo PC to it. Too bad we never got the Halo Bungie was originally designing for the PC/Mac. :/

None were properly ported no, but I do enjoy Halo PC more than it's Xbox counterpart. What would make the original a better port? For me, the Co-op, correct FOV with adjustments, AI syncing, better netcode would probably make it more enjoyable. But that's just me.

Same definitely. I do enjoy Halo PC far more than its Xbox counter-part. I can't say the same about Halo 2 Vista, though. I probably like both equally...

Here's a list of things Halo PC should have had:

-Better netcode

-Anti-Cheat (Thanks, Bt)

-FoV slider (Thanks [Insert Many Names])

- Extensive Console (Many more options like you used to see in older PC games)

- Actual mod support with in game downloading. (More like Valve games/old CoD. Halo 2's is terrible)

- Better dedicated server tool (Thanks, Goemitar/Omega) with stat tracking (Thanks, Sean Aero)

- An editing kit to the equivalent of Source games.

That's all from the top of my head. I'm sure there's tons more but that's all I've got right now. :D

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

The bottom line is that Hired Gun/MS should've (c wat i did there syx?) properly ported the game.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

Halo has always seemed to have a low FOV for me. After I get used to playing CoD and play Halo, I feel like I have tunnel vision.
