If you read the halo book - First Strike, there a big section about the crystal found on Reach. This crystal apparently has time and space bending abilities. it allows much faster slip space travel, where it could take you hours to get somewhere instead of weeks.

Now the halos are suppose to neutralise all life within the galaxy. So what im thinking is the forerunners could have used similar crystals to relocate, maybe, to a new planet out side of the halo blast radius and out of this galaxy? With there advanced technology and time bending abilities this could be possible.

What do you think?

This could lead to a comeback now that the flood has been re-released. And now they may even have better developed weapons in which to battle the flood with as its been 10000 years since they left. Just an idea.

Forerunners are ancient humans.

You know what I just realized? If that were true, just about every religious player would go nuts. Honestly, that is quite controversial. That would effectively negate the Creation theory/belief. Could spell trouble.
