Honestly, if they had, wouldn't they still be around with all of their incredible technology? Well, if they HAD used the Ark, it would support the theories that humans are possible decendants of the Forunners. Then again, if they didn't have the time/chance to use their creation, why would they have bothered building it in the first place?

Wow, this is actually kinda confusing me... hmm... well, lets see. What do we know so far? The Forunners were an advanced race that pre-dated humans and possibly the Covenant. They built 7 Halos and an Ark; the former to destroy the Flood (whether they created them or not is still up in the air) and the later to do... what? Save themselves? Well, that worked well... hehe, maybe someone lost the key and they got trapped...

Well, those are my thoughts. Shoot me!

No one really knows for sure, except Bungie. It's all up in the air. Personally, I hope the mystery of the Forerunners is revealed in H3.

Well, the chances are pretty darn high. I mean, it is the conclusion to the story. It would be a total killjoy if Bungie were to leave the Forunner mystery in the clouds. Actually, thats just bad sense.

They've done it before with the Marathon series... The last game, Marathon Infinity, opened up even more questions than it answered...As fas as Bungie is concerned, don't assume anything...

It would be sensible to think they they did find means to save themselves from oblivion based on simple observation.

It was not known to all the forunners it was to be used. it was used at last minute to stop the flood to overun the entire galaxy. Anyways most of the forunners died by th flood. And they activated it cause they thought they had a chance to live and florish again but it didnt or.... it did because maybe we are decendants from forunners. And forunners could be atlantians.

There corpses are not there because the ring obliterates everything. And it turns planets to desserts.
