Implying those don't already exist... ;-)

We could have Illuminati like groups then.

  • 04.20.2012 9:33 AM PDT

Does anyone even read these?

How do you know that this feature doesn't already exist, but can only be used by a certain few?

Well, we would have the ability to hide all of our private groups from you... ;-)

Having the ability to hide aspects of the community from the community would be detrimental to the fabric of the community.
So do you agree that groups set to private, thereby hiding their forum, are detrimental to the community as well?
In my opinion private groups are an asset to the community. While access is retricted, it still gives people the ambition to make friends with those in the private group.

The only exception I see for having hidden groups is to give Bungie employees and moderators a buffer from the public, but I would not make this a feature of b.net.

* I'm supried that there isn't already hidden groups for employees and mods!

  • 04.20.2012 10:09 AM PDT

We should have the ability to make any part of a group public or private. That would include its listing and landing page.

I thought this the other time, it is a good idea though, I like it. The only way to get members may be by sending them an special group invite with a unique link.

Also this might work well for HFCS if you guys want some "privacy"

How does one join a group that is hidden?
Allow members with a certain security role the ability to send special "group invitation" messages.

Now your talking.

What is such "bad" idea.

When he was younger, he was the one who always had the jokes and riddles that would keep the spirits of the Spartans high. Over the years however, his lifetime of combat had hardened him, as it had all of the Spartans. Within Will, John thought, something special had been lost.

1) What are you trying to hide on a PUBLIC website?
I don't think that's an appropriate question when I could just as easily ask any group administrator that's set their group to private the same question.

Regardless, I'll give you a possible example. Let's say I run a group which has an administrate component to it - a separate group for moderators and administrators of the "main" group. However, I do not want the members of the main group to know who the moderators are or those people who are potential stakeholders in the main group. I also do not want to be bothered by requests to join the group.

Good point, but the text I've made bold made me see the real potential this feature would have beyond the tools already at our disposal. One further if there were threads within a group, or even sections rather that could accessible on a need-to-know basis like for staff. Have a hierarchy of subforums like there already are within the main site. Anything of this sort could potentially expand the effective use of private groups here. Add in more design options beyond simple themes and you could potentially have miniature websites within B.net. There are a lot of things Imo that could be done for private groups.

To me, it seems like there is no need for it. If you want to have a private group, then don't use Bungie system.
IMO it is not a necessary feature.

Canada isn't that important that it needs two of the same threads on page one.

This would be a little mean. It's like saying to people "You are not welcome," which is mean.

"WAAAAAAAAAH THEY DON'T WANT ME THERE, THEY ARE MEAN! DADDY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!"

Even more reason to put this feature in.

Honestly, this isn't a bad idea.

Nahh. I wouldn't use that. Not even HFCS would.

  • 04.20.2012 11:32 PM PDT

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

I sense a conspiracy.

The feature would be underused. I don't see it as something that would serve much use.

Well, what if the members of a group aren't interested in "making friends" with other people? What if, for example, I wanted to create a group on Bungie.net that was ONLY for a select set of my friends and nobody else? Are you saying that would not be acceptable?

Could you also answer the original question I asked you?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I don't see the point of hidden groups, if anything it just makes it harder to get people in a group.

This is the Ninjas' solution to HFCS problem.

But I think it would make a GREAT feature!

  • 04.21.2012 7:11 AM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

You already have the option to set it so people wanting to join have to be approved. There's no point in hiding it.

Why don't they just hide the whole site like you mentioned instead of hiding a group or groups?

Would you like the ability to create/modify a group which is hidden from the public view? Such a setting would remove a group from being listed on users' profile pages, the group search, group spotlight, etc... All links to the group would return 404 errors if you were not a member of it. Although they would not be hidden from the web team for obvious reasons.

Just curious about your response to something like this.
