I don't know if there's something I've just missed, but I have a question regarding the Covenant's attitudes toward the Halo(s) in Halo CE and Halo 2. In Halo CE, the Covenant's objective in securing the Halo is to utilize its offensive capabilities. This implies that they know it is a weapon (as they do indeed refer to it as such) of great power, even though it is still an immensely religious object. It is unclear whether or not they know anything about the index, monitor, etc., though they are searching for the Control Room, implying that they must know something of its firing mechanics. They simply want to use it against humanity as a weapon (as explained by Cortana when she taps into the Covenant battle-net, after rescuing Keyes on the truth and Reconciliation). Their position in Halo 2 seems much different; they do not intend to activate the Halo offensively, but instead as an instrument of faith. They want to activate it for the purpose of initiating the Great Journey. Perhaps the Great Journey is in fact a mass suicide (though it is never specified) , but, as the Arbiter so adamantly refused to believe the Gravemind or the Master Chief on this, it seems much more likely that in this game they are not aware that it is a weapon. If anyone has any information that may illuminate this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I think that Halo CE did not provide an indepth look at the Covenant beliefs, as Halo 2 did. The Covenant may have known Halo was a weapon, but not the kind of weapon that kills all life. Maybe they felt they could control it.

Was there even a question in there?

No, there wasn't. However, we do know much more about the Covenant religion and belief structure since Halo 2 outlined that for us fairly well. Oh, and if you played Halo 2, you will note that the Arbiter was the first of the Covenant to understand that the Halo's were actually weapons. But I think the Prophets already knew that.

Sounded more like a statement to me, but to answere the "question". No the Covenant do not know that Halo is a weapon. They believe that when activated the Halos "divine wind" changes those who are faithful into gods of some sort and are propelled to paradise. In that respect they are kinda right in that when they are activated they are certainly propelled somwhere, but it may not be paradise.

I think he wanted to know if his statement was true or false.

It is a stupid question. The covenant didn't know it was a weapon, the prophets possibly did though. The covenant weren't going to activate it to destroy humanity, in fact they don't care about humanity.

They just want to activate the Halo Rings to go on their Great Journey. Human kind just got in the way, then we destroyed one and a half rings.

GG. I stopped reading after those couple sentances.

What do you mean "one and a half rings"?

(note to self: join Apple's team always, as he is a god)

They dont believe the Monitor. They think when activated it will take them to the place where the forerunners have gone. They dont know it just kills everything, or at least the majority of them dont. I wonder if Truth actually knows or not.
