Subject: Why didn't Truth hurry the hell up?

When you're playing on "The Covenant" why isn't Truth activating the rings?! Knowing the Chief and Arbiter are on their way with the flood, you decide to give moral speeches? Honestly, why didn't he hurry up? What was stopping him?

This and it would still take some time to charge up. Also Johnson had to crash the party. Literally.

See you on the battlefield.

Truth is both completely insane and a villain. Therefore, it is expected for him to take the least sensible course of action possible.

I'm pretty sure you had to have a human do it, such as Johnson.

He had Johnson. He made him activate it.

Because it is a plot hole, a number of which are present in the latter half of Halo 3's campaign.

I am surprised how many people don't realize said plot holes in Halo 3, sadly story seems to have taken the back stage when discussing campaign quality these days.

I am not sure why Truth didn't even bother getting captured humans before, I mean really, you travel all the way to the Ark, not even sure whether humans will follow, only to capture what you need in the last 5 minutes.

Talk about procrastination.

Believe. Bungie.

I dont believe that is what is considered a plot hole. A plot hole I blelieve is something that is clearly known to the gamer and then is neglected when the time comes. For example someone you know would not commit said act but then do so because it furthers overall plot. For me I knew that truth was blinded by his own power as well as his overwhelming sense that he was untouchable. So to me him taking his time was not a plot hole because I expected him to underestimate Chief because he believed he was all powerful. Hence the shock when arbiter kills his ass.

Fair enough, not a plot hole, but I consider it bad writing.

And I still believe Halo 3 butchered the good characters Halo 2 made, especially the Gravemind and Miranda, the former becoming the stereotypical villain with tentacles, and what the hell happened to Miranda, did she become a teenager?

Truth was good, I liked him, but he wasn't stupid, I don't think he would have done that, he was portrayed as cruel and efficient previously.

I think many of you are jumping the gun here by saying it was a plot hole or that hes just a typical super villain.

Let us not forget that he did not have the easiest or simplest of situations to deal with. Here are a few points to consider when asking why Truth took so long.

1. He needed to keep Johnson alive and we can all assume that the BAMF that he is, he would have put up a lot of resistance.

2. Miranda showed up smashing through the window with a Pelican, killing a Brute and shooting at a few others. This, undoubtedly stalled Truth quite a bit.

3. Don't forget that for Truth this was his 'Great Journey'. To him this was going to send him to a divine place like heaven where he is amongst the Gods. I'm sure he didn't want to rush something that was that spiritually important to him. What if he messed it up? And his Gods did not think he was worthy?

4. Truth did activate the rings, just before Chief and Arby made a truce with the Flood. The process is not instant as the rings are millions of light-years away. Think about it. And as for the abort button, why would the Forerunners make something so important and powerful that you cannot have an abort button? What if somebody pushed by accident? (Lol'd at that thought)

Common villain idiocy. The Halos also take a while to warm up, giving Chief and Arby plenty of time to stop him.

Am I the only one who just assumed he did activate the rings, but they were in the charging phase? I don't think it was anything Truth could have controlled, it just takes too damn long for the Rings to fire.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

It was every Ring that was Charging so that must take some time.

Slightly off-topic, but I remember an old thread here where a user pointed out that 04(II) boots up faster than Windows Vista.

Bungie didn't want halo to end.

  • 04.22.2012 10:52 AM PDT

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

He already did activate Halo. His 'moral speeches' took place after he'd killed Keyes and pressed Johnson's hand down on the Ark's control panel. He was stalling for time.
