Alright, i don't know if this has been mentioned but does anyone recall the story of marathon. I know it bears an incredible resemblance to the halo trilogy and it does seem odd that both, tot he point we know, are almost the identical plots. Now imagine this, originally the foreunners were humans, and this story is just a repeat of itself and this conflict between humanity, the covenant, and the flood have already taken place and now it's just about to finish again, if that is true then this is just a loop in a never ending story where the forerunners are humans and the flood will keep coming back again and again with the covenant. The most ironic part, the gods of the covenant are the forerunnners, and if this is true then the very humans they wish to destroy are there gods but back again to repeat history. Now if any of this is true that means that masterchief must activate the ark, which is odly in africa(the supposed birthplace of hummanity istelf, could it be both its beginning and end?), so that the story may continue and the galazy wiped clean and to start anew and let humans and covenant become what they were once again. Lastly, the most striking issue is how ONLY humans are called reclaimers, are they genetically pre-disposed to having this ability because their forrunner ancestors were the originals and they left those genes for them to inherit and guilty spark and penatent tangent just can pick up on their masters ancestry. Yes this is all just speculation but man, this is a little too coincidental for my liking.

That has been my theory for a long time, so thank you for putting it out there so nicely.

but the idea of history repeating itself is new to me never thought that this war w/ the covenent had happened before.

Good theory, and very likely to be a true one. It would explain what 343 Guilty Spark says i Halo 1.

"Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?" and "Last time you asked me: if it were my choice, would I do it? Having considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed. There is no choice. We must activate the ring."

Maybe not time travel, but a repeated history.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

no thanks. but history repeats itself for the flood as they are starved, hibernate and as life reappears they come back only to be starved again. hence they cannot be defeated.

is it possible (on my theory that humans are not forerunner and vice versa), that the humans were the only intelligent creatures the forerunners found and tasked them with actiavting the halos and ark. the covenant could have just been like cows or something back then (in terms of intelligence not ability to produce milk*cue grunt at the end of halo 1*) and they are so advanced because they are "imitative not innovative"?

hey dude, i totally agree. i put out a thread a few days ago that vaguely said the same thing, but it was poorly written on my behalf. your explanation is short, clear, and gets a good theory across nicely

Read the Cortana Letters and then realize they were put out shortly after Marathon:Infinity was released and before Halo was announced. Alot of pple thought "Cortana" was actually Durandal from Marathon reborn. I think there are major ties between the series. At one point in Halo 343 says that the Chief's armnor is too weak to take on the Flood and that a minimum class 10 armor is necessary, i believe that happened to be the class of armor the hero in Marathon wore. I dont think that all the coincidnce is just a bunch of easter eggs. It would really be nice for Bungie to tie theyre 2 major franchises together...maybe paving the way for a return to MArathon

perhaps the forerunners had something like this.

History repeating itself? THe forerunner had great technology.... And the covenant found its remains from their Gods?

Well that means it will repeat itself again, but the new covenant will only find the Humans Technology.. pretty crappy, right?

Imagie if a Spartan with an advanced AI and a group of humans was transported oooo...say 100,000 years into the past with some current human tech. Now they are stranded. Cant go back. How far would their tech evolve in the span of 100,000 years?

is that a hint that humans are forerunners? *cough*aren't*cough*
