You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Active 9/1/11, Heroic 12/25/12

I think this is a good idea, the only problem I could think of is moderation. It would definitely bring more people to the site because many people don't want to create a separate account to post on another site.

It has potential, but I don't see what is so hard about just making a profile.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Wait, you want a wave of new users with little accountability for what they post? With access to the Flood? Are you trying to make your job a nightmare?

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

No thanks. I'm all for adding value to accounts rather than making them more unnecessary than they already are.
I agree. I think accounts should be emphasized. Make people want to act better on the site for fear of having their account banned and access to the forums limited.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

I'm sure most of you have probably seen on some news websites that allow you to post comments from or under different accounts from different providers. Some allow you to sign in using a provider then you post from an account created for you on the site. However, there are other sites which allow you to post directly from your account. For example, on this site it allows comments to be posted (and replied to) from people using Windows LIVE, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts.

I think this could be especially useful for people who follow Bungie's Twitter or Facebook accounts where they are sent links to articles posted on this site and want to comment on them, but aren't interested in any of the other features you get with a Bungie.net account.

dazarobbo, just as long this option doesn't extend to The Flood, I am happy with it. Seriously, this is the last thing the Flood needs.

  • 04.22.2012 4:15 PM PDT

I'll always feel that if someone really wants to post It's pretty easy to just make an account. But as long as a way to moderate off site account posting is available then I have no problem with it.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Finally, someone gets it. If they followed through with this idea they'd need at least 20 active ninjas everyday at the least.

No. If you would like to post, then why not just create an account?

Nah, I like being able to associate posts to members, even if I don't see them very often.
Why wouldn't you be able to do that?

Posted by: rendomind
Take a look at 4chan, Daz.

Trolls would be everywhere. At least it isn't like SomethingAwful where you have to pay.
That's not a fair comparison; this is not a method for anonymous posting any more than creating a Bungie.net account currently is anonymous.

Posted by: elites rock
I disagree. Most people try to keep gaming out of their social life.
Bungie's Facebook page is followed by more than 574,000 people. That's clearly not true at all.

Posted by: jross1993
Would there be a way to limit accounts though?

[...]

It would make alt accounts more accessible, no?
Frankly, I don't see that as a relevant question, but it doesn't mean that any of those sites make it easy to create an account.

Posted by: mister death
Waaaay too much spammers would come. It would be taken advantage of.
It would be better if you explain why.

Posted by: spawn031
Hashed out new post:

You're just talking about commenting on information on other sites with our bungie.net account.
No, but that's an interesting idea.

Posted by: snipe champpppp
Why does it matter?
Because it encourages people to stay and use this site to participate rather than another site.

Posted by: DE4THINC4RN4TE
It might bring in people, but whats cool about this community is that its made up of people who are here for bungie.
So what does that make the people who follow Bungie's Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube accounts? Not there for Bungie? Not part of the community?

Posted by: DE4THINC4RN4TE
Having anyone being able to post without a bungie account would take away that feeling of being a close-knit community. Personally, I think it's a bad idea to implement this.
Shouldn't we be encouraging and welcoming people to participate on this site rather than giving them the feeling that if they join they're going to dismantle the community?

It has potential, but I don't see what is so hard about just making a profile.
To create a profile here (presently) you have to essentially create two: A WLID and a Bungie.net account. That is yet another pair of login details that someone has to remember when they could be using one of their existing accounts from another site/provider.

Wait, you want a wave of new users with little accountability for what they post? With access to the Flood? Are you trying to make your job a nightmare?
Are you really suggesting that should the Web Team implement this, that posts made by non-Bungie.net accounts could/would not be moderated?

If you're going to say things like that, you have to give reasons why.

I guess it'd be helpful, and it'd be pretty cool having "anon" users, although it isn't really that hard to make an account.

Misread a bit, still, it'd be kind of helpful.

well if you had a bnet account, facebook , tweeter and what ever else wont you be able to post on all of them?

i think adding facebook would make the site to personal with photos and identity.

I agree that it is an unfair comparison, and I have not completely grasped how the logistics of your proposal would operate.

However I think it is important to distinguish between the types of "anonymous". While you are right in that Bungie.net is anonymous in that you are personally hidden behind an alias, however your reputation is still carried with you on that alias. With a site like 4chan you are completely anonymous, with no alias, and you have no identity from posts to post.

If alternative means of login were added in addition to the current system, I feel that it would be vital for users to maintain a consistent identity, whether it be an anonymous alias or not, in which they can effectively be held accountable by.

Sure, but I don't see how that's any different from creating multiple accounts and posting on them at the moment.

That's if the site chose to display people's Facebook profile photo at all. I'm not sure if I agree that they should be displayed or not, but they could probably just be replaced with a "f" for Facebook icon, "t" for Twitter icon, etc... (or even just the Webmaster avatar).

And just thinking out loud: if someone were posting using a Facebook account, but their avatar was the Webmaster, how could you tell the difference between a regular Bungie.net account and a "posting Facebook" account?

because that allows spammer to have an army from one computer...

and so if users use there facebook to sign in they loose some features normal members have?

and if every normal user has 5 accounts on the site do you not think have would cause any problems?

there is no difference other than you are making to easier... if this happens then there would be a need for a lot of mods to banned all the people that took 2 seconds to sign in on there facebook and post something against the rules.

Having to add mods is hardly a price to pay for a feature that could provide a benefit of this kind.

I like the idea... but I don't see how you would manage moderating all of the spam (sorry if this has already been addressed, I haven't read all the posts yet). I mean, if you take a look at a single Bungie update on Facebook, you'll see what I mean by spam. It's absolutely flooded with off-topic comments. And I don't suppose that they'd bother to read the forum rules or learn forum etiquette, if this feature is all about saving time.

And even if they got around to doing all of that, I worry that a spike of anonymous activity would make it harder for users to get to know each other.

it would be bad because all those people from the facebook/tweeter page would come here and post all the stupid stuff they do on the facebook page.

That'd be a pain to moderate wouldn't it? The constant wannabe trolls just rolling in and doing their business without even going through the trouble of an account?

Sounds horrible.
