In private groups we can customise our selection of security roles and hence member titles. I noticed some groups have a system of titles based on group posting, involvement and general participation. But since you can only modify important aspects of the security role, keeping track of individual member involvement is down to looking out for their posts and such which is unnecessary hassle, unreliable, inconsistent and unfair towards members whose involvement goes unnoticed.
What I propose is the option to use an automated setting with particular member titles that would be used in a priority ladder. Basically a setting that, once activated, would keep track of each user's involvement in the group, and once a member reaches a certain preset requirement for a title they would automatically be awarded it. You could set priorities (like 1-15) for when a user qualifies for more than one, similar to the main forum system. Titles like the moderators' could be reserved for being appointed manually.
Some examples to convey what I'm getting at:
Title name: Awesome Member
Preset requirement: Group PPD of [>4]
Priority: 1(5 tot.)
Title name: Informant
Preset requirement: [7] approved news articles
Priority: 3(5 tot.)
Title name: Valuable Asset
Preset requirement: Member for [3] [months] and [12] threads created
Priority: 5(5 tot.)
They could be kept secret, too. Think it'd be cool? Could it work?
