Subject: Group Title Progression

In private groups we can customise our selection of security roles and hence member titles. I noticed some groups have a system of titles based on group posting, involvement and general participation. But since you can only modify important aspects of the security role, keeping track of individual member involvement is down to looking out for their posts and such which is unnecessary hassle, unreliable, inconsistent and unfair towards members whose involvement goes unnoticed.

What I propose is the option to use an automated setting with particular member titles that would be used in a priority ladder. Basically a setting that, once activated, would keep track of each user's involvement in the group, and once a member reaches a certain preset requirement for a title they would automatically be awarded it. You could set priorities (like 1-15) for when a user qualifies for more than one, similar to the main forum system. Titles like the moderators' could be reserved for being appointed manually.

Some examples to convey what I'm getting at:

Title name: Awesome Member
Preset requirement: Group PPD of [>4]
Priority: 1(5 tot.)

Title name: Informant
Preset requirement: [7] approved news articles
Priority: 3(5 tot.)

Title name: Valuable Asset
Preset requirement: Member for [3] [months] and [12] threads created
Priority: 5(5 tot.)

They could be kept secret, too. Think it'd be cool? Could it work?

I've been using the general idea in my group, but we are on a different website, our ranking system is based upon the number of forum posts the user has.

starting rank - 0 posts
2nd rank - 50 posts
and so on.

It's also one of the main reasons why I chose to leave B.net private groups because promoting individuals just take too much work.

It would be very cool if we had the ability to create automatic ranking systems with customizable metrics.

This has been one of the largest problems in private groups for quite some time. Once groups get to a certain size, they are just to hard to manage.

I would like to see this in whatever-we-are-calling-the-second-new-hotness.

Customizable requisites for title progression in our private chapters would be infinitely helpful for management of the larger groups.

Achronos should let us have our own algorithms for group title progression. But he'd probably realize that there are members who would spend a lot of time trying to found out the algorithms for the public forums and they would eventually find a very close (if not exact) system of algorithms that match the public forum's algorithms. We would find the exact amount of time and/or posts it takes for us to get certain titles + how much a ban can delay that progression towards a title.

Bye.

Will there be a max number of people allowed a certain title? If not, wouldn't nearly everyone end up on the same title eventually? Would a contest system be added in the event of two users having the same stats?

You can have up to 15 roles in your private group. I doubt everyone will stay at the same rank. The ranks are not time based, they are activity based.

Don't think you understood what I meant. Say all 15 titles are post related.
For example,
1st title =10 posts
2nd title =15 posts
15th title =80 posts
Based on that system, in large groups with a lot of activity the majority of users will eventually end up on the 15th title eventually, unless there's a cap added to the number of users allowed a title.

Who's to say you wouldn't be able to implement a "top 5% of members by post count" requirement. There are a massive number of possibilities of requirements and combinations of requirements.

That's what I was saying would need to be implemented, I was just showing an example of why it would be helpful.

That is a great idea. It would make managing larger groups much easier.

That would be great, it would save a lot of hassle.

About me? I love Astronomy, I like to play guitar and watch anime. My future lies in Astronomy and so does the future of all of humanity. You should join my Astronomy group Space Explorers.

It is a great idea for many groups. My group titles works a bit different, but I see many groups who could have a huge use in group title progression.

It would make groups more fun and it would also leave the members wondering what the requirements for each title is, like in the mains. (Well, at least I think it is exciting)

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

I want this, it would be sweet. Also title bar colours should be added to override those of the mains for group titles.

And the number of available titles should be vastly increased, 15 is way too few.

But then, how would we tell what base title an employee or ninja has?

This would be a good idea for groups who promote based on post count. My group gives titles based on a little of everything and it's getting difficult of keep track of everyone as the group grows.

Maybe if we could track member activity, such as post count within the group and the join date for the group and a internal moderation history for that member, all in one place. That would be a nice feature.

What would be even better is check boxes in the group member list so you can apply titles to a number of users at once

I have applied about 400 titles manually and it was very time consuming...

This would be an awesome addition. I would like the ability to approve all rank ups though just so I can prevent "boosting" for titles.

Yeah, good idea. It would definitely provoke a lot more group discussion/activity if members have something to work towards, though.
