Subject: Stopping lag on Halo PC

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

So my computer is pretty crap, but it is decent enough to run Halo Combat Evolved smoothy. However, there are a few parts during the campaign where the game starts lagging, usually when there are a lot of enemies or action. Such parts include the first group of marines on Halo, the big battle before entering the ship on Truth and Reconciliation, the beach storm on Silent Cartographer and first stepping outside on Assault on the Control Room.

Apart from that it runs perfectly smoothly. However I am wondering if there is anything I can do to stop these parts from lagging? Or is my computer just not good enough to run these parts smoothly?

Aside from lowering the graphical settings, I'm afraid that there's nothing you can do.

Edit: There's an option that allows you to reduce the graphical quality more than the ingame menu will allow; just add -use00 or -useff (slightly different) to your game shortcut. Be warned, the game will look awful with this flag set.

As Btcc22 said, lower your graphic settings and resolution to as low as you can go. This should help you get the 30fps needed.

If you post your PC specs, we may be able to see what else we could do.

Is there mouse lag on this game? I have a powerful pc and a 1000hz gaming mouse but it feels slower on this game than my newer ones?

There shouldn't be (can't confirm this but I've never noticed/experienced any), if there is then try to disable/enable vsync however, Halo PC is made to run at 30fps like the consoles and anytime i've tried to disable vsync to get more fps, the game appears to create an artificial lag, which may be what you're experiencing.

Give it a try, i can't guarantee that this is the solution but i'm sure someone will be able to give you an alternative if this doesn't work. Hope this helps.

Guess I'll just leave it then because I play on high visual quality and it runs fine apart from a few parts of the campaign and I don't want to play it if it looks awful

Lower resolution. That will most of the time put the FPS up. You'll be able to keep high settings still with any luck and no slow downs.

Even on low visual settings and low sound quality and low sound variety it lags
