Whilst scrolling through the forums for the past few months I have noticed something about how I approach threads. This something is about the specific amount of replies a thread has, and how that impacts my desire to enter the thread and post in it. That specific amount is: 0.

When a thread has no replies I feel a stronger urge to enter a thread and say something: funny, insightful, helpful, or otherwise productive in order to sort of "get the thread going" in a way. I also feel like my reply should be created more hastily than other times. Sometimes I'll end up being beat by a few posters or so and that's what lead me to this question:

Do you feel the same impulse to reply to a thread with 0 replies? Are you unfazed by the amount of replies in a thread? Am I just crazy here?

Yes.

I feel like I should post here. Thanks, OP, you just made me feel guilty.

Many times, if the thread seems to have strong structure and worth posting in, yes. Especially when I have something really good to contribute, 'cause then I may be quoted several times.

Yeah. I'm usually more drawn to new threads because popular threads often no longer have anything to commented on that hasn't already been said. A new thread means you get to post without being completely lost on what was said over the past umpteen pages.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Of course, and I feel the same way. That is because when there are typically >25, most replies are ignored, as incoming users simply quote the original post or one of the first few.

Further more, 0 replies means the user's question hasn't been answered, so there is a high chance that you could actually contribute to the discussion.

Besides, who wouldn't want the notoriety of being the second post: I am forever immortalized on Duardo's coattails in the Member Title FAQ thread!

Having more to contribute makes me more likely to reply to a thread. This doesn't neccessarily mean the fewer replies, the more likely I am to reply; but fewer replies usually means that there's more to be said in the topic.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

I'M EXACTLY LIKE YOU!! And yes you are crazy too.

Nah, JBSpudster and I just have a mad case of 24th post syndrome.

I love making witty replies in threads that end up being the 1st reply, then everyone quotes me and I feel so special.

Same for me. Personally it's because if the thread is interesting, I would like to get my reply in earlier so I can see how people respond to what I said.

On Halo Waypoint if you get in a quirky remark at the start of a thread, as the thread grows you'll get loads of 'thanks'.

But not so much here. I don't really care..

I like it here where it doesn't show the amount of views. On Halo Waypoint, you could have 0 replies but 45 views.

Yes, I seem to go toward the less reply threads more too. Probably cause with threads that have 100+ posts, not everyone see my reply.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

I only click it if the tile interests me. Like this title. I thought you were going to talk about how threads are left to die.

Blackness Confirmed. You've got soul.

The Ultimate Opinion.

I stay away from threads until there is already a discussion going. Usually that is after 10 or so replies.
