Ok, here's the idea. In Halo 3, Bungie should make it so that you can choose to be an onlooker to the match, but not worry about interfering in the match. I call it the "Camera Spartan". Here's the deal:

You can be in the game, but not be seen AT ALL. No active camo, just not visible at all. You cannot hurt or affect anyone in the game, and they cannot affect you. You cannot touch anyone, and everyone else just goes through you. You can see everyone's symbol in the game, and know where they're going to be before they know, so you can get a good angle on the fight that will happen.

I find that this would be good for grudge matches where it may be 2v2 or 1v1, but people want to watch, and they don't want one of the people that is participating in the actual fight to have host. It would also be good for the many people out there who want to make montages, but don't want to put Action Replay on their Xbox. You could just have one person be the "Camera Spartan" in a custom game, and look at the battles for the montage. That way you can have a montage consisting of kills in first person view or kills in 3rd person.

I'd like any feedback on this idea (improvements or criticisms). I'd really like it if Bungie takes notice as well.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

or the spectator mode that people have been asking for forever.

  • 06.02.2006 12:59 PM PDT

Q. What do you get when you add 1 man, 1 car, and 1 rocket built for a jet?

A. A black smudge on the side of a cliff.

Bungie is most likely thinking about something like this anyway. This thread is just here to remind them that's what we want.

Ya, but I know the spectator modes that I've seen can't be controlled by the player. But ya, that's basically what I was asking, and this spectator can host the game and get the advantage.

Or, just make it like in Unreal, where before you start the game, you can fly around and check out the level.

But in H3 it would be where you can do that the entire game.

i think the only god think about a spectator cameral is that you'll be able to see if something is bogus or not, but it's not like you can do anything about it anyway. the bad thing is that it will ruin hiding spots. i know there were a few different spots we used to hide with the flag, or sniper or what not, and they weren't common knowledge on xbl for nearly 6 months. and no we didn't super jump. a moveable spectator cam. would ruin things like that.

I would rather sacrifice a few good hiding spots to be able to watch matches.

Not really I think wat he's saying tho is that you would be able to see the battles so people who weren't foghting or near a fight wouldn't be seen.

Good point, he should not be able to communicate with anyone in the game, while they're in the game.

Advanced spectator options, sounds good. Kind of like what Bizarre did with PGR3 and Gotham TV. Their spectator mode and the support they have for the thing, scrolling race updates, tourneys, is amazing.

Oh, I had another idea too. Maybe Bungie could use it to be in random games and find all sorts of cheaters.

Except for the fact anyone could have an army of Spectators on their side in a CTF or Assualt game, using separate 360s w/in close proximity.

Sega Mega Drive, Golden Axe and Sonic all day!

Spectator mode leads to ghosting, people spectating and telling live friends where the enemy is. Happens in CSS all the time. And with a game like Halo where whoever sees the oppostion first wins, it might kinda suck.

Something like Gotham TV, where the leading are filmed by computer and the videos available to everyone, would be kinda nifty though.

It depends, if the fans want to leave Bungie alone, they do it. If the fans want flyimg tacos that shoot cheddar lazer beams in the next game than Bungie might just hesitate to comply

You can do that for the entire game in Unreal.

It would be nice to have spectator mode, but then that would compel people to buy a second xbox so they could fight and spy on the other team at the same time.
