Subject: Forum bans cannot be appealed.

If you look at this, it says:

Forum bans cannot be appealed.

But if you look at the rules, you see this.

What's up with that?

  • 04.23.2012 8:24 PM PDT

Possibly a fear factor nothing else.

  • 04.23.2012 8:25 PM PDT

Wake me, when you need me.

I think it refers to regular bans that cannot be appealed, while on the other hand perma-bans may be appealed.

  • 04.23.2012 8:25 PM PDT

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

That's odd. They should fix that, but I guess it helps get the point across that they have all the power.

  • 04.23.2012 8:26 PM PDT

I don't think it matters, it's not like you can argue technicalities against them.

All bans can be appealed, not just permanent ones.

OT: Weird, but something has to escape the the web team's mind, because after all, they're not perfect.

I think that's in the same area as "we have the right to ban you for everything". I'm pretty sure the moderation team still allows certain bans to be appealed.

Incorrect, It just says it is very unlikely it will be removed. I don't see anything stating it can't be contested.

I agree with the above. Some bans can be contested.

Forum bans can be appealed, but it doesn't happen very often.

More than likely that section hasn't been updated in quite a while. Perhaps it should remove that part entirely, since the forum rules come from the ToU and CoC anyways.

It was updated on March 28th, which is way more recently than the rules have been updated. I was wondering if this is the new rule.

It's my opinion that if the moderator bans you, it's usually because you are blatantly disregarding the rules. Just take it like a man. Not singling anyone out, just saying that if you think before you post, bans won't happen.

Key

It depends on the Mod. For example, I'm fairly sure it was Recon who said that he refuses to appeal any ban below or equal to 7 days or something like that.

You can't appeal those bans going by what the original poster dude said.

Exception to the rule. A lot of forum sites have it for the extra special cases. Some people live for that exception 2-5 years after they've been banned, so that one day they too can post in the mains.

No, they will.

Isn't this bad logic called 'appeal to authority'?

  • 04.24.2012 7:45 AM PDT

There's a 2 year gap between FoMan's 2010 post and that 2012 Updated section you linked to. I had a permanent ban appealed back in 2009 and see how it has turned out now (for me at least)?

I think that regular bans really can't be argued because our moderators do use effective logic. But bans such as permanent ones do leave some space for wiggle room. I couldn't have been more elated to be let back into the forums and it basically changed who I am so I owe a debt of gratitude to the site.

I really think appeals should be a case to case basis if they are to be taken seriously, in most cases the offenses merit the sentence, but in the rare case it does not, the appeal need not be heard.

Young grasshopper, you have much to learn.

La-hoo, Za-her.

I swear my single ban was due to catching a mod on a bay day.

Yes, I was bumping a thread, but it wasn't like I just typed "bump." I added content to the thread, but also joked that my post served as a bump.

No warning, no nothing. Just... BAM. That happened years ago, and it still irks me.

The Bungie Court of Appeals. That would a court I would love to attend. "You where found guilty of 7 counts of linking to shock sites..." "It was just accident please..."

It would 1up the waaaambulance. 99.999% of bans on bnet are deserved. Second chances are so few one could say the don't exist.

Usually 3 day ban cannot be appealed [i]unless the victim of the ban can prove to the moderator than banned them that it truly was not fair. 7+ day bans are usually more likely to get appealed than 3 days, though.

I hear if you send them flowers, they will lift the ban.

And chocolate for Recon.

OP: If they were banned, they were banned for a reason. These types of decisions are never biased. Though, if the banned person can contest the ban with proof that they were 100% innocent, it will be lifted. [That's what I got out of reading the rules and other stuff.]
But that never happens so...
