Subject: -blam!-??? got my answer. sorry 4 the weird typo before.

What does it mean? Does it replace a word that should not be used on B.net? Or s an inside joke I don't know? Or do people use it, because it is fun to say?

Subject: -balm!-???

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

It replaces words that should not be spoke on these here forums.

It's some kind of joke from way back.

thats what i thought.

@spaboolly

I find it is a great way to soothe chapped lips.

-Blam!- is the term the profanity filter uses to replace certain offensive words. It's just a way of censoring out inappropriate words on the forums.

Also, if I remember right (which I might not) "Blam" was the original codename for the Halo project when Bungie first started it.

Sing for me, will ya?

It's a censor that automatically replaces naughty words.

The actual word "blam" originates back when Bungie was located in Chicago. Next to their office, there would be lots of screeching sounds for when Cars almost got into accidents/crashes, and the employees would yell out "BLAM!" to break the tension.

Maybe it should have been a -Monkey Nuts- filter.

I'm pretty sure the original codename for "Halo" was either "MonkeyNuts" or "Monkeyballs".

I prefer Blistex, I use it because my lips are dry although it is particularly fun to say now that I think about it...

Silly OP.

You could put -blam- in the place of -blam- to make a post sound really inappropriate!

Nope.

From the book "The Art of Halo", I quote:

"So, when we assigned a code name to what would become Halo, we originally called it 'Monkey Nuts'."
They do code-name it "blam", but that's after they code-name it "Monkey Nuts". Also, below the quote you can read about where "blam" came from.

No, they changed the name to "BLAM" because he "didn't want to tell [his] mom that [he] was working on [monkeyballs]" (or something like that; forgot what the original name was).

And "blam" originated from Chicago. When the employees heard tire screech, they yelled "blam" as a sort of resolve.

This is only a theory, but I think that trading "blam" with a cuss word happened after an employee was about to cuss, but was humorously cut off when the other employees heard a tire screech and yelled "blam".

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Originally used way back in the Bungie Chicago office. When vehicle tires could be heard screeching due to having a near miss with another vehicle, "Blam!" would be said out loud in the hopes that the vehicles would crash. Halo 1 was known as "Project Blam!" for a short period of time during very early development. More recently, Blam! is used for the bungie.net word censorship filter.

One of the earliest uses of this word was in a read me file in the minotaur folder, which detailed an argument between Alex Seropian and "Chucky" (in which both persons argue over who gets to be player number 4), the last line was Blam! (uttered by Jason Jones).

* Example of use: (For language filter) "-Blam!- off!"
I recommend new users to become friends with Bungiepedia, the amount of information there is pretty kick-ass.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Is anyone else imagining the OP angrily looking in the mirror while yelling "balm!" and stabbing himself in the lips with a misshapen tube of Chapstick?

Just me? Okay.
