Some people think polls kill threads.

To me, they don't always. Just because not many people post in the thread when a poll is given, they at least answer the poll. I believe if it answers a yes and no question, the poll does not kill the thread.

With that being said, how do you stand on this controversial topic?

I apologize in advance for all the crappy jokes I make.

Most of the time, people vote instead of posting, killing the thread.

  • 04.24.2012 2:03 PM PDT

Well let's see.

Ah, but the whole point of the thread may not have needed post to answer the question, it may have needed just a simple "yes" or a simple "no"

I agree with you if you have a poll and people are using it and not posting its still useful.

I usually post anyway if I have a opinion on the topic

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

I happen to think it adds to it, alsoo draws in more people.

What is wrong with that?

Most of the time I'd say yes, it is too easy to vote then leave without replying, meaning the thread falls down the page. Although, with slower forums it doesn't make that much difference.

The definition of controversial is what's wrong with that.

Gives rise to a public disagreement, not everyone thinks the same way of this.

It really all depends. Sometimes it adds to it, and sometimes it harms it. It really all has to do with the topic of the thread its self.

Most of the time, they do. I think they should add to the threads position a little, but not much. 3 votes = one post, or something like that.

Polls only "kill" the threads that aren't interesting enough to get an actual discussion going.

I don't like threads with no poll that ask simple questions like "do you read peoples signatures", where there's little or no actual discussion taking place, but the thread still gets bumped every time a user says "yes" or "no".

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

While a poll isn't necessarily a death sentence to a thread, it does harm the thread, because many people will vote and leave. When people post many of them will justify their opinions and generate discussion.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Agreed, most polls aren't successful because users vote and then leave as stated above. This would most likely solve the problem.

Also, the OP shouldn't be allowed to vote anymore. There isn't any point to it.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

It usually keeps people from commenting, but on a thread that could use a poll people are too lazy to post.

  • 04.25.2012 5:58 AM PDT

Really depends on the poll.

It would be nice if a member votes in a poll the system would consider it a post and for lack of a better term bump it to the top of the forum just like someone posting a comment would do.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

It depends; if there is a poll in a thread that will be banned, I can vote instead of posting, so I can voice my opinion and avoid a ban.
If the thread is appropriate, then I vote and post.

-Too many people post in polls and detract from the original intent of the poll.

-Polls lose ground on the page for a vote does not bump it to the top as I think it should, negating the need of posting in them, making the poll itself more useful.
