Disregard Females, acquire currency.

I hope this is the right place for this...

I was just wondering what order the halo books should go in...

I've already read

Contact harvest
Fall of reach
The flood

What book is next? Is it first strike or ghost of onyx? Also where does the cole protocol fit in?

So basicly what order do the books go in. Not in the order they were released but in the actual order they are meant to be read in.

Contact Harvest
The Cole Protocol
The Fall of Reach

Forerunner Trilogy
Contact Harvest
The Cole Protocol
The Fall of Reach
Halo The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx

This would be chronological order canon wise.

Release wise it would be:

Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx
Contact Harvest
Cole Protocol
Halo Evolutions
Cryptum
Glasslands
Primordium
The Thursday War (October 2012)

Just a heads up, but Halo Evolutions is a bunch of short stories that takes place in various locations at various times.

And you should also know that Contact Harvest and Cole Protocol take place within the timeline of the Fall of Reach.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Yeah, don't forget about Evolutions. That has a collection of short stories. Some are very good.

Dont mean to bumb this thread but I have a question. If I read "the ghost of onyx" before "First Strike" Am I missing out on anything? Should I wait to read the ghost of onyx? My local book store didn't have first strike so I got onyx instead.

Honestly, I read all the books out of order. I don't think it's that big of a deal. They aren't exactly meant to be "you need to read book X to understand book Y." I think you should be fine with reading Onyx.

I myself am reading the books out of order, just getting whatever my library has whenever it has it. The books can be seen as the history of humanity in the mid 26th century. You don't HAVE to read them in order, but it helps.

To give you an analogy:
You don't HAVE to know what happened in WWI to know what happened in WWII. They are two different wars with different men, equipment, and statistics.
HOWEVER knowing what happened in WWI helps a lot to understand WHY things happened in WWII.

The only ones you would have to read in order are:
The forerunner trilogy and Glasslands before The Thursday War

Oh and Halo: The Flood is basically Halo CE in book form so don't worry too much about getting that one.

Don't worry. My first Halo book was also Ghosts of Onyx. There are things you won't fully understand, but just buy the books in retail order or how ever you like and you will understand everything and be very pleased with some of the things that will make Ghosts of Onyx even better.

Fixed.

Contact Harvest happened in 2525.
The Cole Protocol (around) 2535.
The fall of Reach happened in 2552.

You can read them in any order you like, but not reading other Halo books will only mean you will miss certain key-battles and get involve more with Spartans-II and the Human - Covenant war.
