Subject: Would you like to see revisions of posts?

You know our motto, We deliver!

That would be pretty cool feature. I'd like it for sure.

It'd be cool for an individual user to see that, but not on a post level. Most posts don't need that degree of tracking or specificity. Perhaps at an OP level, but even then, most threads don't need it either.

It would be cool in group articles, etc., but I think the best way to implement this, conceptually, would be to allow the OP of a thread to add a community wiki a la Slickdeals (and I'm sure plenty of other places but I don't get around the internet much anymore). Perhaps the OP can keep the wiki private or just manage it him/herself, with the exception of mods who can always edit it. The site could keep track of wiki revisions so people who need it can revert back or check previous edits if necessary. This could be really useful for a lot of the FAQs, link compilation threads, developing story threads, etc.

Why would you need to see the edits?
It's not just about seeing those, it's that since the earlier revisions of the posts are kept, it's possible to revert back to them if a mistake is made.

Ok, i see how it could help but not really that necessary sense the forums are not wikis. One reason they have that edit history thing is so when trolls change the post they canjust revert it but people can not change I
Our post.

How would it be incorporated into the site such as how it would look and would the edit history be for every post or just op?

I wish people would stop using the word "necessary" in discussions about possible new features for the site. The OP (in most of these situations) hasn't used the word and therefore stating that the feature is unnecessary is irrelevant and is just a useless statement.

OT: I see no reason for anyone to argue against this feature, as it has no foreseeable downside. I'm all for it.

I wouldn't mind having it.

Can't see how that could be useful unless your a moderator.

Exactly. Why would normal members need such a feature?

I wouldn't want to see that. The only time I edit my posts is when I need to add something vital or fix grammatical errors, as these really bug me. I'd hate for people to be able to see them. T.T

I agree that the concept of necessity is a bit trite in the context of this type of thread, but there is some truth to it in this case. I think if it's a useful suggestion, it's better to offer an idea to make the idea work instead of saying it's just flat out not necessary. Hence my idea above.

If it's not harmful, though, playing the necessity card is pretty pointless. Almost as pointless as people who say the site is perfect exactly the way it is.

The original idea would be harmless if you were the only person allowed to see it, but it might have cons to the user if it was public. I don't think the latter was the intention, but I might be wrong. My idea was to make the latter work in a reasonable way for the right purposes.

I think it would be a great idea for moderators; as in revisions only visible to moderators. For public use, eh, 50/50. I usually edit my post for grammar or spelling errors. I see it being redundant.

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

I see absolutely no reason why we shouldn't eb able to see edits, and it would be interesting to see the revision history of major posts.

I would suggest that there be some way for moderators to override this, since there are times where they edit posts to censor them.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

I certainly think a lot more users could get more usage out of being more organized and managed with our content. I don't think the Web Team necessarily needs to concentrate on tools to make us less stupid, but this is always a handy mediator idea until such formats exist.

Though personally, I just save everything locally anyway, so whatevs.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

A "previous versions" button like the downward arrow that reveals the signature would be helpful. Except instead of the user's signature, it revealed the previous post versions.

Mods should have the ability (if they do not already) but what I post is mine to edit, not for others to observe my errors.
