In my years here there has been many different "birthday threads" if you will. Some are terribly short, though some can be much longer. I believe that these threads show members that have been sometime on bnet.
Moderation! How should that be effected? Should birthday threads integrate discussion to them? Yes! Without that, you should really consider them a spam thread and just a self post about "Haha I'm 7 and I'm important!". But if people take the time to figure out really great ways to add discussion in their birthday threads, I really don't see it as a problem.
Here in the community forum, it's very easy to notice trends and how people pick up on them. By now, birthday threads and parodies of them are ridiculously easy to pick up on for most. But if these irregular threads are allowed, should this be something expected every week? After all this forum really isn't for people to just promote that they have been around for a while, join dates and titles are totally meaningless anyways.
How do birthday threads effect the community? What's your opinion? Are they necessary? I mean if DeeJ (for example) had posted a birthday thread, would you seriously consider it "spam" even although you see a thread posted every week for mail sack? Employees don't usually create threads, you're the ones who make these things happen. So what's your opinion on birthday threads?
:)
