When you think about it this seems pretty obvious so if it's been posted before, i sincerely apologise and no harm meant.

In the bible, in flood comes and destroys everything but noah and his family and pets survive on the ark. I reckon that Chief will activate the Halos (for reasons stated in ICEMAN ASSASS1N's theory ) from inside the ark and that the ark is a sort of bomb shelter to protect you from the flood and the detonation.

Humanity will survive because they sheltered in the ark for safety. I understand that the WHOLE of humanity probably wont fit but at least enough to repopulate. Maybe they'll even find a forerunner in there or something.

Discuss.....

This is a dubed theory, but a good one at that. The question is who will be saved? Humanity or Covenant?

Interesting theory, especially the part about the forerunner that was just thrown in.

MC: Alright everybody in the ark! What the...
forerunner: Hey guys, thanks for letting me out!

I don't think that the Ark protects people beings inside from the activation of the rings. The Forerunners wanted to wipe out ALL life. I don't think they would leave any life alive.

I think that this is what the forerunnerswould have used to survive their own destruction upon detonation of the rings to get the flood off the face of the universe

Maybe the forerunners are still in the ark?

I don't think that they survived at all. They all died.

There are two ways this could go: Either the ark kills all life of sufficient biomass to sustain the flood, or the ark, or something else shelters some life to repopulate the galaxy. Because, why would the Forerunners destroy ALL life to stop the flood? That's saving the galaxy for no one. It's like "LOOK! We killed all the flood but there is no one to live in the galaxy now!" The Forerunners were intelligent, i think they would notice this small plot hole.

The other solution dealing with biomass would allow for smaller creatures to evolve and for the flood to starve. Unless of course they evolved so quickly the Flood could use them to live off.

One thing i notice is that the Flood (with the possible exception of Gravemind) are unintelligent. They use up all the resources they can get their hands (or tentacles) on as quickly as possible (sound like any other species we know of in the real world???) They are bound for self destruction anyways, it's not like they're about to start Ruling over humans and covenant alike and breeding them like cows for sustainanace. No they eat and eat and eat until there is nothing left to eat then, and only then, do they die.

One question i have forgotten to raise, does anyone know how the flood survived 100,000 years without food? The rings were activated, life wiped out (at least most of it) and yet the flood did not starve out. did they find food? Adapt perhaps? If they did adapt the rings are now useless. Does anyone know?

Thats a damn good question. How the hell did the flood survive without food down in that containment facility. Perhaps they eat eachother once other food sources die. Hey wait a minute!... I sense another theory coming along. Maybe if one flood eats another flood, the victorious flood becomes a bit bigger, stronger and smarter. Therefore, gravemind could be one of those flood that have eaten other flood to survive only to become the biggest fish in the pond and kept eating becoming bigger, stronger and smarter!!!!

Woo, new theory time!

The ark is going to be like noahs ark. The spelling indicates a ship, a lifeboat. As for the plot, i think it is pretty simple. When you play halo 2, there are many clues given that the profet (most notably truth) knows what the halo rings do and is trying to get to the ark before activating them so he can survive the "flood" to come. Halo is based off of nortic mytholgy and in norse myths are like the bible backwards. The end of the world comes before genesis. The heros in those myths fight on as long as they can until they are finally beaten but something mangages to survive. Undoubtily, we will see some humans make it, which ones, who knows. The plot is going to be a race to stop the activation and/or to survive it. Personally, the better storyline i think is the latter. The real questions to the story is how the elites and the arbitator fit in. The aribator is an interesting name and i think he will play a role in deciding who will go and who will not go into the ark and/or he will be a force of arbitation that will make an allaince with the leftover humans and elites. The irony in his name would really come out. The other, older aribators, used a sword to ... end rebellians. This arbitor will do it in a way that is more acceptable to the term as we know it. Then you have to wonder about cortana and the other spartans and the good doctor and mother of the spartans. Also, the storyline has intallation 4 destroyed, i would think that with it destruction there is a gap in the system if it went off (post trama new story arcs???). Just a theory, though. This could be BS in a year. Forgive my spelling, it is horrible i know.

The Killed the Galaxy to prevent the flood from spreading to other galaxies.

Maybe they did have food. The Forerunner kept some flood alive for study.
