Subject: Release Noble Map Pack for Free on July 7th.

~ Videogames are my favorite videogames ~

Do you think Bungie should/would do it for Bungie Day?

It's their only map pack they were able to make, but also the most important since it contains DLC maps for all team sizes and gametypes, especially Invasion.

They don't control Halo anymore, and the achievements are already unlockable on standard maps, so it would be a nice gift to the old fans to just make them completely available to everyone considering it is the first full year of them not being in control of the series.

Of course that's only if they even have the rights to the Noble map pack, though they made it without 343's help. and I imagine they still receive money from it. But I'm no expert on that.

Microsoft will never make that DLC free, simply because it has achievements on it.

Do they have a policy of not releasing DLC for free if it comes with achievements?

Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

I couldn't imagine so if the original Gears of War had tons of achievements associated with all of its free map packs.

That's the thing. They're all unlockable on normal maps, even if you don't own the maps. Other than the Breakpoint one of course.

So what's the point now? It's just enough maps to freshen up MM for all of the playlists...

I never really saw an official stance on the achievement, most just assume going by past situations, like Halo 3's first map pack going free which had no achievements, while the second one never went free and did have them.

I'd imagine it mostly comes down to promotions and sponsorships, or just plain backroom deals on what comes out for free.

I don't see it happening, particularly because Bungie has no control over this AND I believe it's Microsoft's call, but it would be cool.

Don't they earn a portion of the map pack sales still though? I imagine they can tell them they don't want to be paid anymore if that's the case.

They're Microsofts old butt buddy. They just need to call up and say "Do it for the fans..."

Who knows. I just know those maps would greatly help the Reach community in the long run if they became free.

I believe all sales would go to the new owners of Halo now. Also, nobody just "does things for the fans". EA won't even fund Bioware's extended endings, so I hear. It'd be nice, especially to give a nod toward Halo's old owners, but I doubt it'll happen.

Well, there was Cold Storage. That sort of counts as for the fans.

What are usually the main reasons for making map packs free anyway, advertisement?

It would be a smart business decision because it would get tens of thousands of apathetic people back into playing Reach and make them more likely to purchase Halo 4 and future map packs. They might even sell some more copies of Reach. The great forged maps on Tempest out there are enough to fill up a playlist or two on their own.

The words "free" and "cheap" do not appear in Micro$ofts dictionary.

  • 04.28.2012 12:21 AM PDT

Still it would be fun to play breakpoint again but i payed for the pack so it would BLAM a lot of people off and so what if it comes with Bleep Bloops

  • 04.28.2012 3:18 AM PDT

Question.

You cant afford to put aside 10 bucks for the maps? Maybe less than that?

As nice it would be, Halo 3 still has map packs you have to pay for.

  • 04.28.2012 8:55 AM PDT

All of those maps sucked anyways.

Grey and palm trees is at least a pleasant change from grey and pine trees.

Inheritor# ... ah hell, no one cares anymore lol

Use Bing as your search engine from now on, you get microsoft points for free... well, technically you have to search to earn points, and use those points to redeem stuff.

spiral out

That would make the game better by adding variety. It would be a great idea, but I'm sure the people that already have them would be turbo-butthurt.

They also made all the Halos, Recon, and the other halo related items they've blessed us with, but that still doesn't mean they have control. They can't give recon, take it away, change the price of Map Packs, etc.

When they said all control is out of their hands, they meant it.

On the contrary, I bought all the map packs and most people who did so are more upset that DLC never shows up in the basic playlists.
