Cortana 5
Well after 16 interviews this is our first Community Jane! Boys heres your chance to get to know a hot halo chick, plus she make you a quick coffee too!
Q: Well, tell us a little about yourself, who are you and where are you from?A: My name is Josephine, Joey, Cortana, or Siffow. I'm a bored college student in Wyoming, studying computer science. In August I'll be moving to Seattle to continue my studies... Not to stalk Bungie. Geez!
Q: Well, it's nice to meet you Josephine, I really think that everyone stalks Bungie though. Everyone does stalk Bungie, right? Well, what do you do for a living outside of stalking Bungie?A: I'm a professional coffee snob for Starbucks. Needless to say, I mainline caffeine and expertly steamed milk. On the side, I'm part of PMS Clan's digital marketing team. Basically, I help maintain our social media outlets and conjure up plans to take over the world.
Q: Maintaining social media outlets and making plans to take over the world? It looks like your either going to team up with Bungie or stop Bungie to take over the world. How did you come up with your cool username?A: My username is arguably one of the most unoriginal usernames on this site, but I love it dearly.
I started playing Halo in the fifth grade (something that I would NOT recommend to parents out there). My little crew of fellow 5th grade Halo players and I would shout random Halo lines during recess, and I'd always be the one to quote Cortana. Eventually, our antics turned into nicknames and I ended up with the name Cortana... for obvious reasons.
Thus, Cortana 5 was born. People often ask where the other four Cortanas went. I've never been able to provide a straight answer to that.
Q: Well, either way, I still like your username of Cortana, despite what others may think. I mean, it makes you sound cool! So, what was the first Bungie title you picked up and how did you start getting into it?A: My first Bungie games was Halo after my little brother begged our mom to let him get an M-rated game. I didn't bother to pick it up at first, since I had other games to beat and I'd never played an FPS before. In the fifth grade, I was bedridden after a surgery for a week and I got really bored. Finally, I popped the original Halo into my Xbox and beat it the next day. For the remainder of that week, I was playing Halo 2. I've been a fan ever since.
Q: Having to go to surgery is and can be a scary thing, but at least you got to play Halo for a week, despite being bedridden, you know? I remember beating Halo myself, it was great! But this is your interview, not mine. So, what part of gaming do you enjoy the most?A: The number one thing I love about video games is that it allows me to escape for a while. For a very long time gaming with a great form of escapism for me. In high school, I did not have a lot of friends and my family situation wasn't something that a kid wanted to sit and watch. So, whenever I could, I'd take the time to be the great Commander Shepard or save the galaxy as Master Chief. It was a fantastic way of taking a break from real life, and in turn, I ended up making some amazing friends though the gaming community, and specifically though Bungie.net.
Q: I understand what you mean, I have the same problems with my family from time-to-time. But, at least you made a lot of friends playing in the online gaming community and hanging out on the Bungie forums. But, when did you start getting into gaming, and how old were you at the time?A: I started playing video games when I was around seven years-old, right after I moved back to the United States. I'd play Fusion Frenzy and SSX Tricky against my older cousin on the original Xbox. I specifically remember having to use those HUGE controllers and I was absolutely horrible because I had tiny hands. But controllers got smaller and my hands grew larger, so I ended up getting better at games, further encouraging my new addiction.
Q: When I started gaming I had the same problems, but Xbox controllers shrink so fast! I played SSX and Fusion Frenzy a lot, you got a great taste in gaming! But aside from gaming, what are your other hobbies and interests?A: I was raised on the side of a mountain in the heart of Wyoming & cattle country, so I ended up with some interesting hobbies. I'm a total gun nerd and an excellent marksman. The moment I was old enough, I enrolled in hunter's safety and competed in a few local marksman tournaments. But that's as far as my cowgirl status goes. I used to take care of horses and work on my family's ranch, but that was in a past life.
Although I'm horrible at it, I love math and dabbling with modding and general coding. It's quite rewarding to be able to create something and see it come to life on my screen.
Q: I learned from my grandfather how to shoot a gun because he was in the Vietnam war. I enjoy creating things too, but I can only make Lego ships(they aren't too good). But let me ask you this, why choose Bungie? What made them so appealing to you?A: Bungie has an excellent way of keeping in touch with their fans. For so many members of the community to be on a first-name basis with staff members that aren't only part of the PR team is a huge thing for me. It shows that they care about what we've got to say and are willing to make sure that there isn't this huge wall between fans and developers. A great example of this is the conversation between the Cavegirls and Bungie during Halo 3's development about putting in a female voice for multiplayer.
