Subject: Should There Be A Post-Per-Day Limit???

I'm trying to get a PPD of 1,398,2193,239784092.4, so I do not like this idea.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

As long as you don't spam. They should just give out post probation, so if you are caught spamming and put on probation you can only post a few times a day until you learn your lesson, or just overall ban you.

That's a good idea.
I'm still not seeing why this feature is even plausibly considered. There's no real justified reason that could possibly make sense.
Well then what's the reason for having a 7 thread limit? I know you could say that more than 7 threads a day would make the threads have no discussion value, but you could have like 2 threads in each forum that are perfectly fine.
There's a logical reason for the thread limit which was (IIRC) established a few years ago after, you know, Watermelon King capitalized on the lackof such a barrier.
Wow.

But couldn't someone (like CENA) do something like that, but with posts? I mean, he sort of already does.
That's why we have moderators to take care of that.

Кланяються мені!

50 posts a day...seems spammers would use this as a goal and simply increase spam. Bad idea. We have moderators and believe it or not they do patrol the forums you don't just have to report posts. Where is the confidence these days.

Also if you knew this had been said before, then you should have known that the idea was bad before...why would it suddenly be good now?

I need to stop clicking on the community forum, some of these ideas hurt my head.

By putting a post cap you're just promoting the use of alternate accounts. People would run out of "posts" (especially in the flood) and just switch to another account.

isn't this community about promoting the use of just having single accounts? No?

Like how we have a 7 thread per day limit, should we have something similar with regular posts (replies)? Maybe 50 or something. What do you think?

Interesting idea. I went online and did some research on the subject. Here is list of my findings supporting your idea:

Astronomy FTW

Tubas Represent!

50 posts a day!

If you get to that point, then should go to a little place we call outside.

OT: Why should we punish people for being active on the site? It's not like they are hurting anyone.

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

Don't you think that putting a limit on users will decrease discussion? I also could see some people spamming at the end of the day just to be cool by hitting the cap. They would treat hitting the cap everyday as some sort of accomplishment.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I'd never reach it. This is about my third or so post in a week.

I remember this topic coming up many times, and the reasoning against it is that there are only a limited amount of topics you can come up with in a day that can have valid discussion value, but you can contribute to already-established topics virtually infinitely without spamming the forums, like unrestricted topic-spamming would.

I agree with this reasoning.

We already have a post-per-day limit. It's 5760.

Challenge accepted.

If there were a limit I would imagine some people might have a conversation or argueement cut short from it. That doesn't seem like a good thing.

If you post enough that you could hit any sort of daily hard cap, your thought/post ratio is likely pretty low.

That makes sense. But sometimes they do spam the Forums (mostly in the Flood), so this could be helpful.

You used the word "sometimes" which would mean that implementing this feature would be targeted at the minority who post above X limit for the purposes of spamming.

The idea here is to post freely within the rules as much as to ones content; limiting posts draws away from this idea (and we have already been restricted in terms of creating threads and waiting a small amount of time between two posts).

You most likely wouldn't even be able to prevent the problem. Finding the aforementioned X is pointless; as all you need is a few posts to allow for noticeable spam, and even then there is nothing stopping someone from safely switching accounts and allowing the problem to occur again and again in a simple cycle.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

And if someone's thought/post is low, limiting the number of posts is going to make them think about it more...

Perhaps a 50 post per day limit for all new users for up to two months after account creation, then?

That seems excellent. But I would prefer it to be 30.
