I've tested the range on the shotgun on H:CE and H2, and they're both way off really.
H:CE has a huge range and is a bit overpowered in my opinion.
However H2 is worse, way worse. The reticule turns red at the same range as the sword, however you aren't even guaranteed to do ANY damage AT ALL from that range, however it's a one-shot-kill with sword. The one-shot-kill range on the shotgun is something like half that of the sword, around 6 ft compared to 12 ft sword lunge.
Stupid much?
The pictures said it all really.

Halo 2's Shotgun should've never been changed from Halo's Shotgun. With a barrel that long, it should not have that kind of horrific spread that you have to be eye-to-eye level to kill something. An 8-Gauge shot should completely dismember Flood, not to fire six shots at it only to have them blow you away from afar with their Shotgun. And you can't call a gun the same make when it's clearly a different model. The Halo 2 Shotgun is shorter, has less rounds, and less accuracte than Halo's Shotgun. The melee and reload rate sucks for Halo 2's Shotgun as well. I used to love shooting Flood in Halo with it, run out of ammo, and do a quick melee bash on them before firing one more round into them. But you can't do that anymore in Halo 2.

In fact, ALL Halo 2's weapons and Halo 3 weapons should be like Halo's weapons, where each is unique and has its own strengths.

Tell me about it. Not only that but when you melee you look like your hitting somebody with a small black stick instead of the shotgun. Bring back H1 shotgun model range, distance, power and the same small spread and melee animation and you have the perfect close-quarters killing weapon.

Its fine, but in answer to the first post, what the hell is a long range shotgun???

You idiot, I said it needed to be more long ranged as in have a longer distance shot than it does now.

I definetly agree, the halo 3 shotgun needs to be in the middle strength and range that of the halo 1 and 2 shotgun.

Hail the SI. Keep It Clean

I'd say they shotgun is just fine the way it is, making it more powerful would be like weilding the sword or a rocket launcher but it can KO if your pretty close, so its pretty much fine.

Halo CE > Halo 3 > Halo 2

Fix the Halo 3 BR spread, plz.

More like Halo 1's.

Rather then messing with the games balance and making the gun stronger, just give the projectiles less of a spread after leaving the barrel and a longer life span.
