"Shall we let the Flood consume our holy city? Turn High Charity into another of their wretched hives? No enemy has ever withstood our might. The Flood, too, shall fail."

-Prophet of Truth.

At first in the beginning I didn't really know what it was. I was mainly paying attention to all the ships around it, and I was completely surprised because for a second I thought the UNSC was getting pretty close to whiping out the Covenant fleets.....

When High Charity traveled near the ring right before going in to kill Regret I honestly stayed outside the temple for a good 30 minutes just zooming in on High Charity marveling at the way it was built and all the ships it had.

I remember the first time battling with Brutes in High Charity, it was great to fight a new enemy, but I didn't realize where I was till I beat that part and arrived near that teleporter. My jaws dropped and I just couldn't believe I was able to experience this awesome view. I've always been wanting to see how Covenant architecture was like and here it was. The methane, structures, music, it was a moment I would never forget. It was also amazing because the UNSC was on it's last ropes, and after 25 years of fighting with the covies, the covies still got thousands of ships left AND a giant planetoid floating around.

It would have been great if the UNSC was somehow able to capture it during the great schism or something instead of the gravemind taking it. Would have made an awesome battleground if we were able to fight firsthand inside the city.

Hbu guys, share your experiences :D

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I loved the Halo 2 map Gemini. The whole style of the place was awesome. I really would have liked a Terminal/Headlong/Turf type of map, but with Covenant scenery and art.

Would have been kewl.

(To discuss Halo 4.)

ONI I believe somehow made it onto High Charity,or they were heavily implied to, I can't find the source though.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Also, regarding the OP, I loved the Gravemind mission.

Halo 2 is seriously the most underrated game in the Halo franchise. Besides Wars.

It's one of my favourite places in the Halo universe, I wish its culture had been explored more through novels and other expanded media. The Covenant side of the story was very neglected after Halo 2, probably a result of the negative impact to the Arbiter in that game at the time.

I know what your talking about. I believe it was Ghosts of Onyx or whichever book took place between 2 and 3. But basically ONI had a stealth prowler hidden near High Charity, and they watched as the whole High Charity fleet turned on each other and started the Great Schism.

Well, taking High Charity with conventional troops would spend what little soldiers the UNSC had left. The entirety of the lower districts are cloaked in Methane. This would make it tedious and resource intensive for human fighters. Plus the amount of ships it would take to even land said troopers, it would be suicide. I admit though, the Fall of High Charity did deny most other races the full history of the Covenant.

It is my belief that the Covenant Civil War and the subsequent infection and roosting of the Gravemind was the only way it could have been taken out of action. If you think about it, the conversion of High Charity into a Gravemind's hive is appropriate punishment for the atrocities the Covenant committed.

EDIT: I've always wanted to see a Flood Held High Charity get NOVA'd out of existence.

I remember on Halo 2 High Charity levels looking down on the city and I would see lights in a grid pattern, were these street lights? Also I noticed bluish water or something like that under the streets, I am confused as to what is the infrastructure and what isn't.

Also, the UNSC wouldn't have to fight the outside fleed. They could do what the flood did. Jump right into the city and deploy troops in and around the city. I don't think the Covenant would be crazy enough to slip their own ships inside their "holy capital"

Really? Wow, you learn something new about Halo every day. I'm guessing it's just a lot of Grunt workers who live down there. Just throw a lit match down into High Charity, it would have been easy to take it down!

I think I'm like you, OP; I'm a sight-seer (sp?). I love just stopping in the middle of the campaign and looking at amazing vistas from the Halo universe, probably why Halo 2's campaign is my favourite. There's so many places in Halo 2 to just stop and enjoy an awe-inspiring sci-fi view.
