Poll: Do You Want The Title System To Stay Or Leave???  [closed]
I want the title system to stay.:  84%
(107 Votes)
I want the title system to leave.:  16%
(20 Votes)
Total Votes: 127

There are so many threads on the Title System that I wanted to know, once and for all, what the majority of the community thinks.

So, do you want it to stay or leave? Also say why or why not.

I wish there was also a way to see what titles voted for what options. For example, how many Mythics voted for "stay" as opposed to "leave".

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

I'm indifferent to it, but can see that it is both a source of amusement and dismay to many people.

I would like to see a visible "opt out" where a member checks a box in their settings, their title changes to something not in the hierarchy (maybe something like "Mature Member") that indicates to other members that they don't show a title and they don't SEE anyone else's title either.

That way, those who don't want to partake are able to demonstrate that they not only don't care about your title, they don't care about theirs either.

I don't care, it is a nice feature, but I wouldn't mind if it was removed.

It would make make difference to me either way.

If they do get rid of it, they had better replace it with something.

I don't see any reason to remove it. It's fine and fair the way it is.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

I am genuinely surprised by the early results of this poll. I thought most people didn't care for titles. It seems I'm in the distinct minority.

I think it adds a lot of diversity to the website. I don't care if you care about titles or not, it's something unique, and gives individuals more of an identity.

I agree, I know the titles mean nothing, but they are cool and promote being good.

They do. You receive a title for being active in the community. It encourages participation.

After all the trouble Achronos has gone through to keep its functions a secret, I would hope he wouldn't just throw all of that hard work away.

Also, if we told the titles system to leave, where would it go? Surely we'd have to provide some sort of severance fee for it instead of just kicking it out to the curb after all the years it's serviced us. We can't just say "Look here, Titley, it's been a good run, but we've reformed to some alien form of communism and can no longer have this beautiful hierarchy of elitism you've helped us to craft over the years, so I'm afraid we have to let you go" and throw her out onto the street.

That's just inhumane, though it would certainly save us a good deal of money by not having to pay for those we lay-off.

I like that idea a lot. Something like that should be implemented in the next hawtness.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

I feel the title system encourages positive behavior within the bungie.net community.

Many other websites have custom titles, avatars, AND visible signatures. But do we have any of that? Didn't think so. I like how simple the Bungie.net forums are. They much much faster load times and it's easy to have the "hover function" for clicking into different forums.

With simplicity in mind, the title system really is just that. Good behavior = elevated title, bad behavior = decrease in title. Does that mean users that don't have titles are always bad? Absolutely not. They're just silly hats, but they're also a great indicator of behavior that a user has with a specific account.

"Opting out" of forum titles, isn't a bad idea either. Users that want to do this should be entitled too. For me, it helps me recognize a user when they post in a a thread much easier. Forum titles and the title bar is such an eye grabber that you associate with a user's avatar. You can't mess that up when looking for a response in a thread.

The reason so many threads are created about member titles, is because it varies. Believe it or not, there was a time on Bungie.net where forum titles were non existent. We were all the same, and yet we still were judging about each other. We all had our join date below our avatar. "You're an '08 so your opinion is irrelevant!"

The same thing happens today, it's just more noticeable in the main forums because of member titles. (I use the word "noticeable" for good reason)

All in all: Actions speak louder than words. Titles are usually a great indicator on how a member behaves or how long they have stuck around. Opting out of this system isn't a bad idea. I'm actually pretty excited to see what happens in the next site update.
