I don't respect a development cycle of two years. This is one reason I respect Bungie; they put effort into their games, about 3+ years of effort.
If they've been working on IP for about 2 years, then the darkness phase will end short enough. Bungie has a thing for three year cycles, and their game will definitely be announced about a year before it's released. What does that equal? Anytime, my friend. It's nearly time.
However, Bungie is creating a NEW universe, so they might be spending extra time creating the universe rather than the game. Possibly, these past two years, they haven't even started designing the game yet, which makes sense. How are you going to create structures and people without knowing what the hell you're even supposed to be making?
Bungie also isn't being held hostage by Microsoft anymore, and they can take as much time as they want on their game, whereas Microsoft was rushing Bungie, which is why Halo 2 was so glitchy.
Whatever the case, the game should be announced about one year before it's released, which would be this year if Bungie sticks to it's 3 year plan.
