Subject: Halo 3 Plot Hole?

The Gravemind didn't make very tactical decisions in H3. As if Chief and Arby needed his help. Truth's remaining defenses (after the 2 Scarabs) were lax and easily dealt with from long range. Plus, Arby is a monster with the sword.

But gameplay performance aside, the Gravemind has got to stop underestimating Master Chief... he conquered Forerunners but expresses frustration at/admits defeat to 1 Spartan? Wow.

He never admits defeat...

"Resignation is my virtue... like water I ebb and flow. Defeat is simply the addition to time to the sentence I never deserved, but you imposed." ~ Gravemind, Halo, Rally point Alpha

You were saying?

He doesn't admit defeat, he is simply saying it is an annex to a previous defeat he suffered.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Sounds like he is admitting defeat to me, just temporarily.

He didn't want to waste his forces, the Ark was more important.

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

That's what I was thinking. Also I'm sure the UNSC must have fired upon High Charity when it was going to the Portal so High Charity must have received some damages and loses.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Well does High Charity go through the portal on Earth to reach to Ark? I always assumed it just went through slipspace.

Impossible.

It would have taken much longer than a day to reach The Ark. High Charity no longer posed the power provided by the Dreadnought, and must have worked though those reactors we destroy in Cortana. Those were Covenant tech, and even Covenant slipspace and power efficiency was no where near the Forerunners.

It's mostly and overlooked aspect of canon. But I can tell you that by slipspace it takes longer than one day to leave the galaxy.

Covenant ships have always been faster in slipspace. Wouldn't High Charity be too large to enter Earths atmosphere and go through the portal anyway?

Yes, they are faster, but they are no where near as fast as being able to exit the galaxy and travel all the way to the Ark in less than a day. Plus, I highly doubt HC was capable of even exiting directly on the portal, which I would imagine would count as redirecting the slipspace stream out towards the Ark.

Plus, we don't know how long it takes to travel the Portal. It could be near instantaneous or take a certain amount of time.

Sounds more like MC has become little more than an annoyance.

This is what I believed.

The Gravemind already knew the location of the Ark (being gigantic biomass made out of Forerunners, therefore knowing everything they knew), he just didn't have control over a slipspace drive until he had fully integrated with High Charity.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

It's fairly obvious.

Earth has the keyes to the Ark.

Gravemind does not know where the Ark is but knows Earth is an important location in relations to the Ark.He goes to Earth to find out. Bam Floodgates.

Earth is not his priorty. Stopping truth activating the Halo is. So he sends High Charity on the Ark when the location has been established.

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

Too quick on the draw, man! I realized my mistake almost as soon as I said it, and revised my post ASAP.
