Subject: Ghost Bullets

Hey guys I need help, I just recently picked back up on Multiplayer and am having a few problems with my pistol and the like. The problem is that when I shoot someone, I can see the bullet hit them but their shields don't flare up and I don't hear that little "ding" that says you hit them. The people on the server said I just need to lead my shots. Well I am no noob when it comes to FPS's so I know thats not the problem. The odd thing is that this only seems to affect bullets. I can still kill with the Rocket Laucher and stuff but not the infamous pistol. Does anyone know how to fix this? I never did it when I originally got the game.

Um, just because you're experienced in FPS games, it doesnt mean you know Halo. In Halo (as the guys in the servers already told you), you have to lead your shots. The netcode is messed up. Lead about a millimeter or two on front of where they're heading.

Once again, think before you say something. As I have said earlier, just because you are an experinced FPS player, it doesnt mean you are experinced in Halo multiplayer. This question you asked proves it.

Well when you have different pings it means different leads. The bigger the ping the more you need to lead, the less, the less you need to lead, now if you had a high ping of maybe 150 and you were leading just after him, it may have seemed like you shot him but it didn't register.

So maybe you didn't lead enough or lead too much.

Noooo lpjuunin beat me, he posted first...... :(

Hey man, not all games, let alone FPSs, are created equal. You can blame Gearbox for screwing up that problem. Those dudes were right. Halo PC's netcode is screwed up. And the reason you don't need to lead your shots with explosives such as grenades or rockets because of the splash damage they produce, if you use common sense, it's quite obvious.

Yeah, although I'm kind of annoyed about it myself since people shouldn't have to lead their shots, I don't mind it that much.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I never did it when I originally got the game.
You can't fix it. Gearbox, as mentioned before, screwed up the netcode. When you first got the game, you probably hosted your own games. Hosts have no lag, since people come to the host's games, not the other way around.

The people on the server are actually right. The only reason you can still hit people with the RL is because it has a large blast radius. You need to lead off by about 1 cm in order to hit anything. The reason you can see your shots hit your enemy is because what you see and what the server sees aren't matching up. To make your shots connect with what the server sees, you need to aim a little in front of yor target.

Ok, I maybe didn't phrase that right, ok I have been playing Halo for 3 years now so I know a good deal about it. And Kim, I never hosted any games ever. But I still don't get it, I do lead my shots (thats what I meant as I am no noob to FPS's) and I always have. But thanks for whatever help you gave me albeit rather rude help and I'll be sure to think before I speak. Have a nice night y'all.

CONTRARY TO POPULAR OPINION YOU DO NOT [/]B HAVE TO LEAD YOUR SHOTS.

Now this may come as a shock to all of you *audience gasps*, but you don't need to lead your shots. You need to [b]learn
how to aim . Ok, let me explain to everybody that halo's netcode isn't as bad as some might think. Let me also explain that bungie puts cluse into it's games to help out the smarter gamers. The pistols targetting recticle (let's call this the TR for short), has a circle, in the xbox version of halo, this is usually seen as very accurate, but you can actually achieve extreme accuracy at long distances. The four lines pointing to the center of the recticle, mean to AIM FOR THE CENTER OF THE RECTICLE YOU CLOCKHEAD! I mean exact center, this goes the same for all weapons. People complain about the netcode, but yet that is because they just don't know how to play halo. The AR, has a broken circle, with the same lines pointing to the center, which means, AIM FOR THE FRICKING CENTER. You do have to lead when aiming at vehicles however, but by a small margin and it must be directly in front of the vehicle, the direction the vehicle is moving. The banshee, you must aim for the thick part of it, the very front, I call it the 'pod'. Aim for the center of the window shield on the warthog (when you lead you should be pointing at the distance between the headlights on the hog). Also, there are other clues in the targetting recticles, PARENTHESES indicate which crosshair to use. For example, the ghost's bullets fire one blast at center but all the others are side by side. There may be a small arrow pointing to the center, but that is not where you aim. It is dangerous to get close to a ghost, because at a certain range the bullets overlap, and both will hit you. Ghosts must also lead. Note the parentheses, aim for the center of one of the two circles, and I guarantee your hit count will go up dramatically. The same goes for the FRG, two parantheses parenthesize the horizontal lines, meaning aim for the lines. Aim for the center of the crosshair, the center lines should line up with the land you are aiming for!

Also, for grenades, aim about one inch down from your crosshair, and remember the grenade will travel from the left hand.

Thank you, and good night, happy halo hunting.

Stop posting that crap!! You have to lead... period. You're making lots of people confused with this.

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

What's your typical ping? 34-67 = a little lead, 67-120 = medium lead, over 120, I find another server.

If all the players have similar ping, it's easier to play. If one or two have much higher or lower ping, things get funky– warping, shooting you before you even see them in a face to face situation, etc.

Watch some of the videos from the weekly Maw and TUI gatherings. You'll see people leading and hitting their targets.

Yes, when I no-scope moving targets it's quite funny to see them drop to the ground when my bullets pass two feet in front of them.

Liar. Notice how you put in "EDIT:", but if you really did notice mistakes and "edit" your post, it should say [Edited on 6/6/06, blah blah blah] on the bottom of your post. Well not that it matters, but I'm just tell you anyways.

Oh and as I've said before, always lead. Even if you're in your own server, or in a dedicated/another host server, in which you're not experiencing lag, you may not notice it, but you're still lagging, a little. So you have 0 ping? Well, that doesn't matter, you still have to lead. All the time. Well, except in single player of course.

its lag dude. probaly the reason u r having this problem rite now is becuz of all the times in your early days of multiplayer u probaly picked up a cuple viruses and they slowed u down making u lag. so lag is ur best rsn for the bullets bouncing off the ppl.

hi my name's Casper the Friendly Bullet.
What are you going to do, shoot it with ghost bullets? (RvB rules.)

FPS stands for First Person Shooter or Frames Per Second.
