i was also a little late to halo as i got my xbox 1.5 years after its release. I read things about Halo because i loved the demo sooo much. I started reading and it said that you couldnt kill one with a sniper rifle. So i thought. This may sound kinda stupd but, I thought the Flood were covenant made of water (lmao now). I looked at one when it jumped at me and when i was running and gunning i was stomping my feet on the ground, right left right left right left in rapid succesion as if i was running. all I thought was WTF where are the covenant now, then I was thinking, what would becomeof halo if the flood werent there. But in the second game (im sorry but this is completely related) Gravemind said the creators knew what they had wrought. Knowing this info and the info provided in the first halo game, I figured that halo might had been created by the humans in order to create room for more humans on earth in ordeer of deportation. Then Ithought if the flood stayed on the ring, the flood would wipe out the humans on the ring at the current moment. But then I realized that if the flood became a problem, the humans (or forerunners) would activate the ring killing all sentient life in 3 radii of the galactic center. then the cycle would repeat. If this in fact is true, that means Halo: Combat Evolved takes place after the galaxy had recovered from the blast of halo with few flood surviving, therefore the cycle could continue.
