I said I'd have a longer resonse when I explored and here it is.

Well this is my prepared response after exploring the column more. I think its more bad than good. Sorry I call resources databases frequently.

pros
1. The forum has improved.
2. Themes will be back.
3. The most popular forum post feature.
4. The "quick linkname" feature for chapter links.
5. The security Role Editor is neat.
6. Color in text.
7. Avatars in the forum.
8. The new custom databases look nice.

cons
1. Less Databases-I can see this, er wait "resources", because it may take up a lot of space but its still bad.
2. Databases are now called resources, stupid.
3. The way news is organized is annoying. I believe it was better to leave them all in one large section.
4. It brought all the articles database info into 1 large articles database which means I now have to sift through all of the articles in order to find ones that match this new databases criteria.
5. Now people are administrators instead of staff. Another pointless name change.
6. I don't like the new Intoduction/Summary item in the news and then the main post. It may look better if it returned to the old way that news was organized. I think that I might like this after a bit of trying this feature out.
7. The bungie skin is always screwed up on my computer. The text is misplaced and the main picture is blurred.
8. Still only set avatars. It would be nice at least for us to host the avatar like many forums and just put a link to the picture.
9. To get into custom databases you have to go into a subsection. First resources. Then Custom databases. Then into the database. I think they should just show up in with the other resources.
10. There is only a custom columns and no column rows databases. Sometimes rows worked btter.
11. No forum Naming.
Conclusion

I'm sure theres things I missed but I believe that this could get much better with new themes and a theme builder. The forum has great new features especially with avatars. The list turned out kind of close but the good things are more small niceties that I would very much rather trade for the other features. Nice try bungie but I would look at some things to see if its possible to make it better. I'm guessing you already did that though so I won't hold it against you. Just give me a good game in Halo 2 and all is forgiven. I hope you at least read this someone....maybe.

Look, bungie, I love you guys... but honestly, it looks like Microsoft made the new Column. It lacks all of the artistic flair of the old one. For some reason it reminds me of a spreadsheet. Yeah, so apparently themes are coming back. But how is there the room for them to look as cool as they did before? As has been previously stated, the name changes seem without reason and as far I as can tell will only serve to complicate things: old schooler's saying "databases" and confusing the newbies who will of course know them as "resources". I donno... I guess in part I'm disappointed because I was expecting something revolutionary, as I've been accustomed to from bungie. But, nevertheless, I'm sure I will adapt and learn to love the new column just as much as the old one. But, c'mon guys, honestly: "groups"? Umm... I guess your excuse for this was that you've already poured all the creative juices out of your collective brain into Halo 2, so there's none left for the column. If that's the case, that's fine with me, I'd rather it be in the game. Seriously, though, "groups".... I just... ack... yeah. Maybe it's been a long day.

just some things wrong with the new column and stuff.

I've noticed some things wrong too. First of all in the faq it says that chapters will be referred to as groups from now on but further down the faq they still call it chapters. Interesting. Doesn't that also mean that Chapter Founders is now Group Founders? Wierd. Also that thing that has already been mentioned with the 7/17/1756 or whatever for all the old entry dates. Another thing is all the old links don't work anymore which is annoying but I suppose unnavoidable in switch to the [url] tags. Also in old post wherever there was a line break it now says <br> which is the html tag. I just deleted all my articles so I wouldn't have to deal with editing all those.

Ah, one thing that IS awesome is that new banner pic along the top, with the two elites and two spartans. That seriously looks tight. It'd be cooler if there was a blue guy crouched behind 'em getting ready to hack 'em all with the energy sword, though. But, nice job on that.

Yea I don't get why they changed chapter to group. I don't see any advantage to it. But we will live with it or leave I guess.

I'm not feeling this way by choice, but I'm beginning to feel as though the new Column isn't even worth opening a page to. I don't feel like even looking at any chapter much less running mine. I'm not the only one who feels this way either. And I wanted to get my chapter in perfect shape and re-open for business like a perfectly tuned machine. But I am unable to do that because there is no way to tell what I'm doing while going in blindly. And I can accept the fact that the old databases and news would have trouble converting, but the way the new things work isn't very good and is very confusing. I can also get that you are still working and things aren't done or up yet, but the bugs don't bother me. Just the chapter limitations. I can even go with the 30 or 25 database limit. The main problem there is that there is no sidebar and the database interface seems too complicated (but that may be just because I'm still new to it). I really do hope this works out, since you did go through lots of trouble and all.

Yea we have new tools, but we can't talk about them.

That stinks, I was really curious about what these things could be. Will we ever find out?

As for the new "groups", I'm not sure what to think yet. I'll have to wait and see what happens before I start criticizing anything.

For some reason, it says "News is not available – please try again later. ". Must be a glitch.

Yeah, I have to agree. So far, this new hotness sucks. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate having a place for our chapter, and the fact that it is free, and I will continue to show up, but so far it sucks.

Maybe some things are yet to come on line, but our page looks like crap. We used to have a lot of info on our home page, but now it is ONLY news. I hope more stuff will come on line, and I will get back on here and say that the Column rules, but for now . . . yuck. I'm a bit concerned that we will lose member activity. It simply isn't a fun page to visit anymore. If the goal was to separate everything and make you "click" a lot more, mission accomplished.

Heck, I'll get used to it, or it'll get better or both. I guess I was expecting too much.

Give it time before you start saying that it "sucks". There are upgrades and new themes on the way, I'm sure.

I one thing I will never get used to (and it looks like no one else will) is calling chapters groups. The chapters are different, lets just leave it at that.

Did all of you really expect your chapter to look anything like it did?

And members that have been here before the new hotness to the forums, feel free to click the first & second link in my sig.

Ok, here's some feedback for you.

I made a mistake in the typing of the name of the chapter. I hit Leave this Group at the top of the home page. It gave me an error.

Like I said, I'll give it time, plenty of time. But right now it sucks.

Hopefully they will eventually make it shine. Whether they do or not, I'll still be here.

Basically what bungie did was....grab a hold of each chapters "groups" personality and sucked the hell out of each of them. You've seen movies with everybody having white skin and bald, implementing that we all are equal. Basically thats what bungie did to the seventh column chapters. Whats the difference between The Marty Army and Spartan Outpost #754 ? (made up noob name to show new chapter) Not much, because everybodys home page is the same. No activity meter to show that, hey this group is active and no hell no activity log. The activity log will burn because...someone left my chapter last night (dont care about member numbers) and I have no freaken clue who left...a noob, someone upset with me or a friend...I will never know.

Archonos said in response to an old forum post replying to Elite Master in "its past two weeks topic" (not actual title). He said that...after the seventh columns release...were ganna wish that theyd spent more time working on them....and for a change i agree. Nuff said. Im out. Peace

Hmm. I can't believe that I waited two weeks for this. I'm sorry I'm griping, but in all honesty, all Bungie did was turn our chapters (groups) into one big forum. As Dark Halo said, there's no distinctivity about them whatsomever. I seriously hope that this isn't how they're going to leave things. If they do, I'm glad I bought a dreamhost package as I'm positive after seeing what's left of my chapter that I can get far more out of dreamhost. Again, I know we'll probably all get used to the new groups in time, but for now, as WarHammer01 was kind enough to point out, I don't even feel like poking around with it. I'm personally disappointed that I had to wait two weeks and two days just to see everything I'd worked for on my chapter crumble into a pitiful, generic and stripped-down "group". Where did the Individuality go?

To quote a Marine from Halo's T&R, "We're Screwed man! We're Screwed!"

Seriosuly..... My 1 year old son could have done better with a box of baby wipes and a crayon! Anyways, thanks for trying bungie, even though it was.... less than desireable. We deep down know that you wouldn't release anything you'd think we didn't like, so good try, and thanks for the effort, but it's just not what we were expecting out of you. You're capable of so much more, and I guess we're all just disappointed that we didn't get the super-column we've been dreaming about for so long.

1- I know everyone here can read... "we're making a skin builder available soon"... geeze, I wonder what Bungie can do to help our pages look different again? 0.o

2- I liked the old format better too. Please tell me the little right-side-of-page bars are coming back at the least... Databases look like they've lost almost all of their pep (we used our forums as a guestbook... our gametypes database was one of the most important parts of our site... it's bad enough to have them removed in the transition...). The old system was perfect, and this one isn't. Downgrade.
