Great posts Halo53 and Compton. Things will be kicking ass around here in no time.

Also, while the theme builder is being creating aspiring theme creators can get a jump on things. The biggest pieces of the theme are the header, footer and title bars. Grab a screen capture and load it up into an art program then just start working over the various pieces. You can also keep in mind color schemes for the other parts of the page.

We should have more theme(s) by this time next week. Keep in mind though it will take a little bit - the old theme collection took a few years to accumulate. To kickstart things we'll through together a theme contest once the 'builder' is ready.

Sweet. My first two themes I tried got rejected but I'm better now. I hope I can make an acceptable theme this time...

When I click NextTopic or Previous Topic on the last and first Topics in my Forum, instead of coming up with the standard "No topics found", it jumped to some random Groups Forums, and I still have my Group's Powers setup and it still is displayed as in my Group when these are NOT my Group's topics and members, I mean WTF?! that's a hell of a glitch!

Can you fix it because I think its a sercurity risk!

-Edit-
Oh, I see you guys fixed this problem by putting up a sercurity error net, but still the problem isn't completely fixed. But thanks anyways, You guys have done a great job with the new 7th column, I love it.

And, in regards to the post about disagreeing with my statement about the front page - I think I said 'except for the right side boxes' =)
Sketch, that's what makes your statement a bit funny. Most of the information was in the side boxes, so to say that the front page has all the info it used to have except for the sideboxes is another way of saying that it has a heck of a lot less information. Without those side boxes all we can see is the news and the most popular forum post.

Kudos for the forum upgrade and expanded admin tools. Our chapter loves to use the forum, and the new one is excellent. I know you folks did a lot of work to save and try to improve the chapters, and I appreciate it. I'm not gonna lie; so far I am fairly disappointed. But I can see that you guys are listening to the feedback, and I'll look forward to seeing some of the wrinkles smoothed out.

There are a lot of things going on with the site in Firefox:

* A half of the box where all the forums are listed is pasted next to it.
* I can now scroll!Yes, however it messes up the design big time!
* The design seems cut on several places.
* Ive got 3 members in my new Chapter(Zanzibar) however on the main page it says 2...

Other then that great work.

What would be really cool, is if you could post pictures in the announcements, like the Top Story on the Bungie Homepage.

I certainly preferred the old design. Moaning wont get me anything back though, so here are my main concerns noted in a hopefully constructive manner:

1) The activity log is gone. I'm co-leader of a reasonably small clan[/chapter/group] which is limited in membership to people from my small town, and as such our activity is normally submitted in bursts of about 8 posts, seperated often by a day or so. The activity log was a vital tool for small groups like ours, who weren't assured a steady stream of submissions. I really hope this feature makes a return.

2) Lack of 'clunk'. The thing I loved about the old seventh column was the classical [for the internet] feel to it. Everything had a 'clunky' feel to it. Animation and crazy web effects were nowhere to be seen. I understand that a lot of style issues will be resolved with the skin utility; but will we be able to remove the 'swish' and 'vhwoom' for a more retro theme? Are the Bungie toolbars at the bottom and top there for good, or will we be able to remove them?

3) Timezones. I've looked and looked, but I just can't seem to find out how to alter the default timezone away from Pacific time to Greenwich Standard. I know that this isn't directly related to the updates, and that there is a chance I'm just being stupid and haven't found the setting... but *if* I do have a valid point, can this be addressed at some point?

Having been a member of the seventh column, and hence a moocher of Bungie's prcious resources, for two years already, I have to admit I feel loathed to complain about anything I'm given. It's all mana from heaven as far as I'm concerned. But still, constructive criticism is welcomed, no?

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

The time zone problem occurred when they put up these new forums and the new B.net. Nothing to do with the 7th column.

Not to my knowledge. When I noticed it I asked about how to change it I was told there was no way and I haven't heard anything about it since.

customized time zones are a huge headache for Achronos and they were removed back when we re-launched Bnet a few months ago. I suppose it's possible it could return someday, but for now everything is based off of pacific standard time.

Thanks to the folks who have been providing actual feedback (and everything else Sketch said)

Alright, I guess we have been a bit ungratefull. So I'll take the chance to say that I greatly appreciate the 7th column. It's really important to me and I like how fellow fans can congregate here. Thank you Bungie.

I know where you are coming from Sketch. We have no idea what it is like to make the 7th column. I make flash movies for Newgrounds.com, and when a non flash user writes a crappy review acting like he knows Flash I just make fun of him for it. So sorry for that too, seriously.

Let me just say where we are coming from. We really liked the old format. I seriously had no complaints with it. I've been on for more then a year so I know a little bit about what goes on. I thought that the "new hotness" was going to be improvments, not a radical change.

Yes, we will be more patient because it still needs time to evolve. We were sort of given the impression that it was finished because the new format was called "The New Hotness", and we didn't find it that hot. When I went back to my favorite chapter (DarkHalo) and saw the changes, it didn't look like home. I didn't recognize anything; it just looked like a bunch of text stringed together. Secondly, why do you think it needs to evolve? The old ways worked perfectly, why not just model the new hotness after the old system?

I'll try to explain why some people are upset about the names of everything. When someone likes something, they stick with what they like and if they feel it is being threatened they will fight for it. If people start changing the names of everything we're used to for no reason other then for the sake of change, then we get upset because we feel that what we like is being taken away from us. I know, it's just a small thing, but people can fly off the handle pretty easily.

So overall, I hope you appreciate the feedback. And sorry for my ungratefullness. I'm trully sorry guys.

I think it will have great potential -- some of the formatting didn't make the change intact though -- there's a lot of editing needed in many databases and the articles got jumbled up - at least in My chapter. Other than that - I love the extra tools, and I think the layout is slightly improved -- I do miss a few things, but I will be patient knowing that the fixes and hacks may be just around the corner.

Here is some feedback, although negative, still feedback on how I feel about the changes. I'll start by saying that I liked the old 7th Column much more than the new.
My biggest complaint would be the loss of the Events feature. My chapter is 20 months old and we still LAN Halo on a weekly basis with an average of 8-12 players. The Events feature was what we used every week to correlate our LANs. It was the reason most of my chapter kept coming back to the site. Those attending would sign up and know exactly when and where it would be. Without the Events feature the site feels pretty useless.
A couple of other things that I miss are the Activity Log and Activity Meter which made it easy to see recent activity and what was going on with just a glance.
As most of you have expressed I too like Chapter better than Group and Database better than Resources.
I also greatly miss the the right sidebar with links to all the custom created databases, Events and Activity Meter.
Something else I don't like is the way you cannot customize the security settings for each database, but have to give all members the ability to create and edit each database entries, including their own and others. Please bring back the abilty in group setttings to allow members to create new entries and only be allowed to edit the entries that they created just like in the old 7th Column.
It was also nice to see who was online and logged in on the right sidebar.
The only improvement I see is the Forums, which is much improved.
Sorry to -blam!- Bungie, for I know it is free to us and is something you do for us fans, but these are my honest thoughts and feelings on the changes to the 7th Column. The rest of my chapter feels the same way. Without the Events feature most probably won't come back.

Well, ive been a member of Bungie for a while. I never got to create my own chapter until now. I like that I can make my own, but I dislike all of the changes. I would have preferred small changes, not one huge one, then smaller ones to fix that one. (Dont become the everybody is equal Microsoft) Keep the individuality. All the cons aside, the New Hotness is awesome. Cant wait for the Skin Designer thingy.

Oh. My. Goodness.

My new favorite feature has to be the scrolling feature working in Mozilla / FireFox. Thank you Bungie.net!

It really sux that Web Developers don't have one standard to adhere to... but the fact that you catered to a BUG in a browser rendering engine that is only used by 4-6% of the internet population is awesome. Giving the right CSS file to a certain browser is a pain in the ass in and of itself. :)

Congrats guys, great job.

A lot of people seem to be unleashing Ninjas at the moment, well my question is what happens if I unleash the Ninjas upon someone the same time they unleash them upon me? Does this mean the guardians killed us like in MP?

P.S. Im all for the new hotness cept for the rampart ninjas.

No. The Ninjas are so uber l33t, they will keep on fighting for all of eternity and no-one will ever win.

This new design looks really bad right now. Where's the art and creativity? The scroll bar thing and the bottom of the page makes everything look weird. I mean, it's artistic while the rest isn't. It throws off the effect, looks like you put effort into one thing but no effort into the other. Umm, ya, that's just feedback, and I know it'll get better, so I don't really care, and art isn't really important. But if it's released to the public, obviously people are gonna say it looks like crap when it does Sketchfactor. You're right that they aren't loyal fans, because the loyal fans like me know it will improve. My membership thing says 12/2/2002 but I've been here since the beginning. You guys were making changes to the old layout up until it was changed. Of course it will get better.

OK, here's some real feedback.

Where's the event planner?! Argh. This was an amazingly helpful thing for us at HALOID.

I'll give you an example to ilustrate that.

With the old device, we could just see an event, and scroll down, and see who was going:

Attending: 6

EvilJester
BIGwooly
Mad Cow
TychoSix
Weephun
A Jew

Tentative: 3

P1
Zulu
Bravo

And that's it. We can prepare our house for 6-9 people.

Now, we have to read through 20 freaking posts, each person explaining in detail why they are or are not going. Then, after reading each post, we have to remember who said they were going camping that weekend and who has no life and will be there no matter what. And has anyone noticed that the forum topics tend to get off topic sometimes? It's more of a hassle than it should be, and the event planner was set up perfect.

That's all I want back, everything else is fine, even though the look is unappealing.

I like it, Its a helluvalot better then using a freewebs.com site(spyware galore). Remember, beggers cant be choosers, I know that Bungie wants us to be happy(at an extent), but they are doing all they can at the moment. Be happy with what you have, a free website with forums too, where else can you get that for free without ads, popups, etc? Im looking forward to the updates and fixes, but Im content right now.
