Subject: Halo: The Thursday War ~ COVER REVEALED

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Halo: The Thursday War

So in it we can see some UNSC ships, the largest I'm guessing is the UNSC Infinity and the Spartan is... Osman? The planet in the background looks an awful lot like the way Sanghelios is depicted in the Halo 3 Bestiarum.

Hopefully, this will be better than its predecessor. It's known that I had no love for Glasslands, but this time round it sounds like Traviss is sticking to her strengths with military sci-fi.

Musings?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Hmm, interesting. I never read the first book and really don't plan on getting this one. But, who knows, we'll see. Frankie said they're releasing it before Halo 4 for a reason, so it may be worth taking a look at.

Show Faith/Defy Fate

I just hope she focuses more on Osman and her crew this time around. Seriously, the parts with the SIIIs and Halsey played out like a bad teen drama in Glasslands. She should stick to crafting her own characters. I also hope she goes into depth with the SIVs. I want them to have some sort of meaning and not just be the new breed of Spartan which happens to mix the old breeds of Spartan together.

We should know better, because we are better.

Not my favorite cover. I know that Osman is supposed to be standing on a viewing deck, but the way it is layed out looks odd. I am hoping that this will be better than the original.

You should read it, it was written by Karen Traviss, she's an excellent writer and the book isn't bad, picks up right after Ghost of Onyx and Halo 3 and it has alot of interesting twist and turns and the characters are unique as well.

If that is Osman then she's decked out in some fancy Mark V armor with Mark V-B helment.

Hopefully 343i have pulled the finger out and given this one some direction other than diametrically opposing the franchise. I have a knot in my stomach just looking at it.

Cmon Anton, the HC war could not have ended so easily.

343i/ONI is now going to destroy Sanghelios. Maybe that is why we can't play as Elites in Multiplayer...

The box art is terrible, the name for both the game and the trilogy is terrible, Karen Traviss is meh...

I just want to know the baseline story, the facts...

Can I judge a book by its cover and say: AWESOME!

  • 05.04.2012 2:42 PM PDT

Great, I can't wait. I loved Glasslands as much as a Halo book can be loved, and I'm looking forward to seeing where Traviss takes the tale next. I've already made a few theories, but I'm keeping them to a private group for now because they're quite radical (hint: 'Thursday' means more than you know.)

It did. Besides the obvious dissidents, it did. Anything else is simply a cash grab, nothing more. It would also be a cop out too.

Meh, I heard from a reliable source (the OP) to not bother with it. Traviss changes a wee bit too much for my liking. But, we'll see. I could be wrong and might like it.

I read the first book, chances are I'll read the second. I'm more interested to see whether the "forward unto dawn" web series will contradict the book.

Be nice to noobs..Remember even MLG players were noobs at one point.

Interesting choice for a title, considering the meaning. Looks like we're gonna get to see what Infinity can handle.

Just a little food for thought on the possible title meaning.

'Thursday War', war-fighting scenarios designed to test a ship's companies' reaction to various situations and emergencies.
Typically a 'Thursday War' involves a range of scenarios which include the vessel undergoing simulated attacks by aircraft, missiles and submarines; sustaining damage and casualties, and testing the crew's ability to fight fire, floods and deal with personnel injuries while underway. The exercise is designed to test the ship's operational readiness to fight in a real war situation and is the culmination of the training period.

[EDIT]: Spelling Error.

Why does the cover look like an action figure standing on a glass floor?

  • 05.04.2012 10:19 PM PDT

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

If they do attack and lay considerable damage on Sanghelios, good. The Elites want to think humans are evil and on the same level of the Flood, let's be happy to oblidge since it seems finding out they were committing unwarranted genocide hasn't sunken into their minds as being wrong yet.
