Philosophy is completely useless and does nothing to better mankind. Why is it still taught in schools?

I don't think you're supposed to both ask and answer a question in the same post.

makes you think out of the box and puts perspective in things in your life. For example quotes taken from great philosopher are usually posted to motivate or inspire people, nothing more.

It's important because it teaches people how to think and use logic.

Sort of like how math helps teach problem solving skills. Many times it is not what you are actually doing with the numbers, but how you handle them when you can't understand them at first

Philosophy forwards mans ability to reason and apply logic beyond the barriers of science.

Math = logic

Philosophy = dwelling on nothing

No one should ever be afraid of looking stupid, so long as they are making a rational effort to expand their understanding.

It's for being smug in college, and knowing why you want fries with that.

I'm majoring in Computer Programming. Programming has taught me more about how to think and use logic than my girlfriend's philosophy class has.

People are saying, "Oh, it helps you think logically/outside the box/whatever." But math does the same thing, and we're skimping that when it comes to education in our school systems. The same goes with programming. And, programming is more applicable than math is. Nobody is going to use calculus in their everyday lives, but knowing basic HTML/Java would be a huge help. And programming helps people think outside the box and you have to think logically in order to code effectively.

And I'm afraid of posting this last part because I don't want this to turn into a flame war, but...Religion teaches morals just as well as philosophy, and yet one is praised and one is demonized. Again, please don't bring a flame war into this, but I'm just saying, philosophy is not the best, nor is it the most effective, way of teaching morals/logic.

Every member of the Covenant shall walk the path. None will be left behind when our Great Journey begins. That is the Prophets' age-old promise, and it shall be fulfilled!

So, asking a question is useless?

Lolnope.

I don't have philosophy. My girlfriend is in it right now and is telling me about what they're learning and I find it incredibly useless.
