Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

Not to sound like a noob or anything but whats bleedthrough??
Think of the melee and shields system of the older Halo games. If you had like 1/4 shields left and got punched, you'd die, unlike in normal Reach, if you have even 1/10000 of shields left and get punched, it will just drain your shields. The same thing applies with bullets; you could kill someone with a headshot if they had really low shields. That was in the TU when it first came out, but they removed it. :/
Anywho, you haven't really missed much. When 343 can't decide whether or not they should make the game incorporate more TU because half the community likes vanilla and the other likes TU, they decide to strip the TU of bleedthrough, one of the core changes that the TU had... wat...
But I'm sure you already know that from the forums. However, if you were to play playlists that aren't MLG, they completely casual-ized it with terrible maps and gametypes. If you liked BTB, you now get to play heavies, a gametype and map-lineup made by people with no knowledge of balance and ADHD. If you liked Squad Slayer, you can now play Super Slayer, the same thing, but with terrible loadouts, maps and incorporates the new derp-TU-abortion that they incorporated. Etc...
I swear 343 is just making Reach progressively worse after they made it playable just so Halo 4 will seem better by comparison...
