Subject: Halo 2 campaign lag

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

Hey

So just now I got Halo 2 but the campaign is lagging severely

Is there anything I can do to stop this?

Other than setting all the graphical options lower, there's not much you can do. Halo 2 Vista is just highly unoptimized so even some computers that should be blowing through it end up with bad frame rates at times. Even my computer suffers from FPS drops all the time while playing the game.

What are your computer specifications, though?

Actually it doesnt really matter anymore because my product key is somehow invalid and I can only play Cairo Station

But my specs are

130 ghz processor

3 gb memory

160gb harddrive

64 bit operating system

Yeah. That's right. I don't have a 50 in H3. I never got Onyx in Reach. If a game sucks too much, I won't even bother trying for such trivial "accolades". Besides, I've done way more things that take far more skill and talent than anything that can be done in a video game.

Weak 1.3GHz processor and no dedicated graphics? Yeah, you're not gonna run H2V very well.

Does no one read the minimum spec anymore? I don't mean to be rude but surely if your pc doesn't even meet the minimum spec and you don't know what graphics card you have then you should know you're going to get poor performance?

In any case based on your specs, there is nothing we can do and yes, Halo 2 is unoptimised for PC so even the recommended spec may not be enough.

It's just cause System Requirements Lab said that my computer can't run Halo CE but it can, so I thought it might be wrong about Halo 2.

But I uninstalled it anyways. That guy giving it away legally free was giving away invalid serial keys, so I would only play one mission

I bet you're running it on ultra-low settings.

The SR:Lab is pretty damn accurate. If it says you can't run the game, you generally can't. If you can, it's usually unplayable with severe lag/tearing/etcetera.

Really? My laptop is pulling ~150fps with fraps (that's without v-sync, of course). I thought it was optimised pretty good. Well not as good as CE was, but still decent enough. (at one stage during campaign I was getting ~500fps with fraps apparently).

You can rename levels to one of the first 3 levels and play them.

i.e. Rename 08b_deltacontrol.map to 01b_spacestation.map

Then you can play Great Journey.

I can get the same amounts of FPS it's just that I end up getting drops that go down to around 30 FPS. It's completely unoptimized. This is most common when you play on Windows 7 with it. :P

Anyway, if you go to check if your computer has the right specs to run the game decently and it say it doesn't, don't complain when it doesn't work well. End of story.

Wut wut? You mean if I had renamed Cairo Station to Uprising I would have been able to play it?

Ah well, it would have been laggy as hell anyway. I'll just stick with the Xbox until I have saved up enough for a gaming PC

Research the parts and build one or get a friend to. Dont buy a pre-made one because they are usually overpriced for the performance they give.

The texture detail and particles are hugh but everything else is lowest

And heres the PC Im saving up for http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-Workstation-Desktop-Pc-Computer-C ore-2-Duo-8GB-RAM-Powerful-Tower-Gaming-PC-/180838191990?pt=U K_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item2a1acbd376#ht_7715wt_990

Hmmm...

4 GB DDR2 RAM
Core 2 Duo @ 2.13GHz
Windows XP Pro
nVidia Quadro FX1300

I don't think it's worth it mate. You can probably build a better one for the same price. Besides, buying a used computer is just asking for trouble.

I don't know too much about computers, but I know you should try to get at least 6GB DDR3 memory, Windows 7 64bit and maybe an i5 CPU if you want to be gaming. I know even less about GPUs, but I don't think the above is any good.

If I'm completely wrong here (Which is probably likely) I'm sure someone will tell me, but I would not buy that PC if I were you.

I still think Halo 2 Vista will be pushing it. And Mark V guy you really should just learn and google around, you will get more bang for your buck. For £300-400 you could get an i5 2500k, a gtx 560ti and 8gb ddr3 ram. Throw in windows 7 64 bit and you got a PC that can handle most games easy and future ones for a few years.

You'd be wasting your money buying a pre-built one. Honest.
