Hey fellow Maw members, I was thinking about the Halo 2 PC game that's coming up and I was wondering: Does anybody think that the H2 Scorpion is slightly overpowered?

As a HPC player myself, I know that taking out a Scorpion in the first game is pretty simple. But as I messed around at a friend's house on Halo 2, they ted with the Scorpion. I couldn't touch it with anything except heavies. It also looks like the accuracy of the secondary gun has been made a lot better.

Now, I was wondering if the H2 Scorpion has a weakness I didn't find. Otherwise, it may be a good idea to bring back the penetrable hatch when H2 PC comes in.

The only way is to board it, use rockets or swarm it with other vehicles. If you board it from the front you'll destroy the driver hatch thus making a weakspot. And yes I think the tank is overpowered especially on Coagulation. Just so you know that tank is invulnerable from bullets on the treads, main cannon, entire backside, the front. Bullets start to slightly harm the driver when it's directed around the hatch. And it takes at least 3 or 4 frag grenades to even drop the driver's shield. The turret is like an automatic Battle Rifle. The accuarcy and rate of fire on the main cannon has been increased too. The only down downside to the tank is it's noticably slower.

I don't mind the fact that in Halo 2 all the vehicles are devastating deathwagons of doom, for example, it's harder to flip over a ghost with a grenade. However, the trade-off is that vehicles can be destroyed or hijacked. I think they should keep the Scorpion exactly the way it is on the Xbox when they finish porting H2 to PC.

yeah but make it a tiny bit slower like for example the h1 tank spee is a 2 when the h2 tank speed is a 1 so the h2 pc tank should be a 1.5 so i dont think it is too much of an over kill like the h1 tank.

But the tank in H2 is more of an anti-personel vehicle than in Combat Evolved, since it's secondary co-axial is more accurate. They should keep the tank in H2 the same when they port it to PC.

you used to be able to snipe the driver, now the driver is invincible to sniper attacks

You're all forgetting that the tank itself is destructible, now. Too lazy to snipe the driver out? Then just aim for the entire darn tank and blow the tank up instead.

Oh, and if that sounds too much for even a heavily armored footsoldier, realize that the rockets in H2 home into their targets when locked on.

It's quite easy. Using rockets takes no skill.

And sniping tank drivers would be too easy if they didn't have the cockpit shield.

You're fooling yourself if you think the tank is weaker now that it's destructable. It's all cosmetic. As soon as the driver's shield recharge it'll be as good as new.

No, actually. The tank's "health" (as with any other vehicle in the game) is completely unrelated to the shield charge left in the player him/herself. Just pick up a friend's copy of H2 and play it for a while, you'll see.

It's not weaker now that it's destructible, not by any stretch of the imagination. But it doesn't regenerate health along with the driver's shield. Instead, the tank allows you several options: Board it and kick the poor fellow out, snipe the driver out if the cover's off, or just say "to hell with it all" and blow the whole tank up.

Fire one rocket at the tank, let the driver recharge his shield, rinse and repeat. It's the same with other vehicles too. Start a game with overshields and keep hitting vehicles with rockets while allowing the driver to recover their shield. The vehicle will never blow up.

The only vehicle that seems to be different from the rest is the Ghost. The gas tank on that vehicle instantly destroys the vehicle even if the driver has an overshield.

No, me15ter, it's true. People get dudes with overshields into spectres and what they do is shoot rockets at it, and it doesn't matter if twenty five people shoot rockets at it as long as the occupants' shields are high the vehicle is indestructible.

Okay, you've got some good points going on here, but let me put in my two cents. Getting close enough to the Scorpion to actually board it takes a fair bit of skill (or the driver must be lacking in it), because any normal player can blow you to smithereens before you are anywhere near enough to board it.

And sure, rockets home in, but the Scorpion can simply guard the RL and demolish anything that comes its way. Other vehicles don't stand a chance against it, with the possible exception of a very well-piloted Banshee.

Keep in mind that I have only experienced the ruthlessness of a Scorpion on Coagulation; it is quite possible that the placement of weapons in other maps make it much more vulnerable.

Personally, I wouldn't mind it if the Scorpion's shields were just slightly powered down for H2PC so that bullets of any kind would do at least a little something against it.

Well, that's the whole concept of Halo 2's multiplayer. Each team must get the power weapons on the map to dominate it, and after that it only takes a certain amount of skill to win.

Same rules apply. You see, Halo 2 is all about who's going to get the best weapons on the map, and whoever gets the weapons controls the map. It doesn't matter if you kick ass with an SMG it's not going to matter if a half-decent player gets close to you enough with a sword. It's basically a frantic race where the climax of the game ends with the people who have the weapons win and those who don't lose.

Nonono, I've checked with several sources and replayed H2 Multiplayer to boot. Vehicle damage has no relevance on the shields of a player. Heck, Vehicle health and player health are specified in different tags in the game.

EDIT: Ah, here's the source of the confusion: in H2X, you can turn vehicular damage off if you want. That's why.

its an -blam!- tank! look up the meaning of Tank, its supposed to be an unstopable death machine.
Why does the Warthog have no doors to protect the occupants? Why doesn't the Banshee have a Fuel rod cannon in multiplayer? Why does the Ghost have a weakspot (fuel tank)? Besides boarding which you can do with all the vehicles IMHO I don't believe the tank has enough weakspots given how powerful this vehicle is.

*edit* I can't wait to see what a team killer can do with this tank. You can't board friendly vehicles and with the accuracy of a mouse any -blam!- can just reek havok in a game.

And what's H2X me15ter?

The Banshee in Halo PC decimated all so the fuel rod had to be removed but the tank is supposed to be an UNSTOPPABLE KILLING MACHINE?

It's a game. Stop playing the realism card.
