Subject: New Feature Idea: The Call Button

So today I had an idea for a new feature that could be implemented, and I would like to hear your opinion on it.

Currently we have the report button. I can not be completely sure how it works, but I assume that after a post receives a certain amount reports, the post is either added to a queue for the mods to view, or they are all notified somehow.

So in addition to the report button, I would like to present something similar. The Call Button.

The purpose of the call button would be for when there is a question or dispute in the forums that could swiftly be resolved with a post by an employee.

I am aware that Bungie employees often browse the forums, and do their best to respond to certain posts, but it is quite easy for some to slip by them. This way, that could be avoided.

The way it would work is, there would be a button located next to the report button, that if enough unique users pressed, would cause the post to be added to a queue that could be viewed by employees.

An example of the application and benefit of this can be seen with this post that I made in the Mail Sack 16 thread.

I asked if we could have multiple submissions, only to have my question lost among the pages and unanswered.

With this feature, if enough people felt that the question was important enough to be answered, than it would have been easily found by an employee to be answered.

Now of course, there would have to be certain logistics worked out, but what do you guys think of the idea?

I don't like this idea. Do you realise how many people would use it in the hope that their question gets answered by an employee?

I mean, I understand why you'd want this. But employees do a pretty good job at answering questions now. A button would be unnecessary.

Like a report button, but not....

I likes it. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong and will be accosted to the fullest extent of my keyboard.

However: I think it should only be used for OPs. For example, in the "Aerospace Abandoned" thread.

That is why it would take multiple presses from unique users. Having just one click would have no effect. It would take multiple people, maybe like 5, for it to be added to the queue.

It could work, but I think the employes do a good job at coming in to discussions when They want to and besides that can't always be on here all the time.

The other thing is it could be over used very quickly everybody would be pushing it just to get an employee.

i do like your Idea where only the OP could use it like it would be there once or something and once they push it it goes away so it can't be abused and then an employee will see it and decided weather they can post or if the should post in the topic.

But I still feel it could be over used from people who don't know how to use it.

So It could work, But I don't know if its something we really need

If anything it would be making their jobs easier, instead of wasting time browsing the forum trying to see if there is anything that needs their attention, it would streamline that process, freeing up time for them to do other things. And it is not like they would be required to respond if they did not find it necessary to do so.

Every member of the Covenant shall walk the path. None will be left behind when our Great Journey begins. That is the Prophets' age-old promise, and it shall be fulfilled!

Seems okay, but too many people would be doing it.

I don't see how that would be an issue. Like I said, it would take multiple people for it to be added to the queue. If anything, they could just make it so you could not do it on your own post.

This would be abused by trolls for sure, so perhaps limiting this to only Heroic and up, or only allowing this feature in select forums?

I really dont see any of them having time to check the query all the time ... the query would be filled with a bunch of -blam!- that could be easily answered threw a pm to deej (wicth he asks you to do)

Who said anything about them having to check it all the time. It would merely be there for them to check if they wanted to. Like I said, if you are worried about them saving time, this could potentially save them time that might be wasted by them aimlessly browsing the forums.

As for the PM thing, when a question is answered over private message, only one person receives the answer even though many people may be wondering the same thing, so instead of employees having to answer the same PM a bunch of times, they could easily just check the queue, locate a post, and answer it publicly for everyone to see.

I think your idea has good intentions but is unrealistic. We've been getting pretty good interaction with Bungie employees for a while now so I don't find this necessary.

Most of the do not visit the forum just to answer question but to post lame joke and derail threads.and if many people want to know the answer then ether you can ask deej to post it or they can all ask him.

If the employees did not check the query all the time it would fill up with unseen posts and they would not be able to check them all. Plus if anyone has any questions about bnet they post it here in the community.

Why would someone, when given to options, a hassle free one, and a more complicated one, choose the more complicated and inconvenient one?

Your original problem with the feature was that it would waste employees' time. If we just post in the community forum like we do now, it would take much more time for them to have to read every post in the forum, when instead they could easily find important posts. Plus, as I said many posts on the forum escape the eyes of an employee, that was what initiated the idea in the first place.

It is very similar to how a thumbs up and thumbs down button would show the posts that are more important, however it would just be a private way of doing it.

I don't see why that matters. Would you want to be called upon to post in a thread you had no interest in? Or to be told I HAD to answer questions in threads?

That sounds like work to me. This website is meant for fun.

Why are you a mod then? Doesn't being a mod entail that very thing? Unless of course I am mistaken about how the report system works. Which is very possible.

Nevertheless, maybe a call button might not be the best name for it, because you would not necessarily be "called" to a thread, or bombarded with a notification, the employees would simply have the ability to view, by choice, a queue of posts that have been classified as important/necessary of an employee's response.

Exactly, especially for employees to take time out of their day to even post on these forums is a ludicrous thought to me. The fact that they do willingly now is plenty enough for me. To be summoned to a thread that users think is "interesting" enough to merit their attention seems silly.
