Seriously guys, the FAMAS, AUG and Stoner63 all have a 937.5 rounds per minute rate of fire.

The FAMAS has the most predictable recoil, but also the most recoil and a poor ADS time. The AUG is balanced, and the Stoner63 makes you move slower.

In Halo you've got DMRs. And... that's it I guess.
when it only takes 2 bullets to kill none of those subtle differences matter. there's no point cluttering up the sandbox with 12 weapons which all serve the exact same purpose.

There is quite the purpose, and the developers at Activision know that very well.

I just love how the guns work in Black Ops. The AK47, Galil and Commando all have the same rate of fire at 750 rounds per minute, yet their recoils vary and each one has a unique iron sight.

I wish Halo had more to choose from other than BRs/DMRs like I guess will be most of the Halo 4 experience.

Yet again when it only takes 2secs to kill someone it doesn't matter how many different variations of the same weapon there are.

exactly

when someone is facing the other way and you get the first 3 shots on them it doesnt matter if their weapon has 10ms faster ADS because they're still dead

whoever gets the first shot has too much importance for subtle difference like that to have any impact whatsoever

Couldn't skill be defined by "who plays the best in this asymmetrical map with default settings"?

What are you on about?

Some of the best maps in Halo "history" have been asymmetrical maps but that doesn't mean every single one will be amazing. It depends solely on the map itself, they could be amazing or they could be like Swordbase.

Symmetrical maps are just easier to balance an use. Granted it doesn't mean all symmetrical maps will be "the next Midship". They can be bland, boring or mindless.

Reach's Default settings suck ass, the "MLG community" would love to go back to more of a "Default" stand point (actually they know they HAVE TO) or "playing the same game out of the box" if you will but that means that the game has to be GOOD outta the box. They used what they were given, which wasn't much.

  • 05.06.2012 4:34 AM PDT

Hey, I'm just saying. I stopped playing Reach a while ago, and I find Black Ops to be so rewarding.

No one goes invincible-derp mode and throwing grenades isn't a built-in reflex on everyone.

  • 05.06.2012 4:34 AM PDT

Yeah instead you get sprayed and prayed by everybody and also get rcxd spammed(along with all the kill streaks that take almost no skill to get)

  • 05.06.2012 4:38 AM PDT

Well, I get killed by guns most of the time, which is to be expected from an FPS, and I run Flak Jacket on half of my classes.

Once you remove all the bias from a game and take it for what it is, it's actually pretty enjoyable. Black Ops has to be the most balanced COD out there, whereas Reach was the most unbalanced Halo.

this guy. this guy right here.

he knows

It doesn't matter if black ops is the most balanced cod game out there and it doesn't matter if reach is the most unbalanced halo, halo will always be more balanced cod.

Nope.

Halo will always have slower kill times. Come at me bro.

  • 05.06.2012 4:47 AM PDT

so? In cod whoever sees the other player first wins. In halo if you get shot at first and you have the skill you can defeat your opponent. Halo rewards the player for being able to take out an opponent who had the first advantage. In cod its the complete opposite.

  • 05.06.2012 4:49 AM PDT

just read some more, did i really just read COD caters to competitive players?

Nope. In CoD there are drop shots, sound whoring and Lightweight. Panic knifes can also kill faster than the guy who saw you first.

  • 05.06.2012 4:52 AM PDT

which are variables that ruin the balance of the game. Which means the game takes even less skill.

Panic knifes only happen at close range. This means that this does not work on your average cod encounter(most cod encounters are not close enough for panic knifing to occur). Not to mention that the panic knifer would be shot before he could even knife the opposing player.

Nearly every game has sound whoring.

How does lightweight even come into this equation?

And drop shots are usually used by the player who spotted the enemy not the other way around.

Halo has strafing.

sound whoring
every game has this

Back Smacks/Pummels.

Don't make me list you all of Reach's faults. Please, just don't.

I don't mind if you don't like fast killtmes. The fact is, it's probably the most balanced FPS with fast killtimes you will find nowadays.

  • 05.06.2012 5:03 AM PDT

You can list of all of reaches faults, go for it(for i would list of all of cods faults). Fact of the matter is cod will always have more faults and always be more unbalanced and unskilled.

Also here are some fps that have fast kill times that are more skillful and more balanced than cod

-Red Orchestra and Red Orchestra 2
-CSS
-Team Fortress 2
-Battlefield

Yet CoD sells more. Go cry somewhere else. Imma go to sleep now. It's 6 in the morning over here LOL.

  • 05.06.2012 5:17 AM PDT

Cod sells more because its popular nothing more. You must be desperate if you pull the sales figure argument.

You know, I believe casuals would enjoy to see some common ground when they watched MLG gameplay.

That is, normal settings on normal maps. That's just my opinion I guess.

That is why the game should be made with competitiveness in mind. If the default gameplay is similar to MLG gameplay, MLG can draw in more fans. MLG is a complant. They want to make money. There is a much larger casual crowd than their a is MLG players. That is why they want the game to be competitive from the start.

Im not going back to quote this but, MLG pros liked playing on the assymetrical maps. Just because a map is assymetrical, doesnt mean it has to have dynamic or random spawns. If you are holding down an area, they are not going to spawn on you.

ANother point, the reason they kept sprint and bloom in for the finals at Providence, was because Killa KC wanted to keep them in. Only 1 team voted to have those settings stay. Sprint was in from the start because they wanted to keep AA to make it as close to default as possible. Unfortunately, since they kept sprint, they had to lower the base plaer movement speed. That lead to slow gameplay. MLG Reach lost many fans due to slow and bad gamplay.

Dont take Bazza and some of Meagz posts seriosuly. They are somewhat right, but they dont know what MLG is actually trying to do. MLG wants a competitive game, but wants more fans. From a business stand point, they are making the game as close to default from now (in Halo 4) so that they can get more people to enjoy MLG gameplay (more money).

For people saying slow kills times in Halo. It takes ~2 seconds to kill smeone with the DMR. Also, I have played CoD and halo compettively for a few years now. I can pick up ANY CoD and do well my first game back in months. If I take a break from ANY Halo and try playing anything competitive, I will get beat. Resume: top 16 winter season gb Halo 3, top 32 gb Black Ops.

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

Sorry, but they tried all of those maps. They don't just say "Oh, asymmetrical? This won't work".

One of the favorite maps in H3, Guardian, was asymmetrical. They didn't use most of the maps in Reach because they were just bad.

Every single pummel I have is unboosted.
I play GGL. (Grifball)
I hit inheritor 14/1/12. 16 months after release. I have a life fellas.
Every single killionaire I have is unboosted. 22 from grifball, 4 from LD.

Good sir, go see an anger management facility. You're mad as a hatter, and don't belong here.

Ewwwww, Casual vs Competitive arguement, okay. I'll chuck in my two cents.

MLG doesn't mean symettrical. As ^this^ good fellow said, Guardian is asymettrical, as is Penance and Battle Canyon.
As for naming casual playlists, ANY playlist that's not called Living Dead can be forged from competitive to casual, as well as the other way around. Here's two screnarios:

I could chuck in DedicatedToast4 the Sergeant and his 3 guests who are playing on one Xbox in MLG Sanc CTF, and other team we have PioneerPal82 the Captain G2 with his 3 guests, who are also on the same Xbox, and although every player in this scenario has the ability to screen cheat, you wouldn't think about them doing so it comes out to be the most...interesting stream you could watch.

One the same note, I could chuck in two premier league BTB teams, nearly everyone in BTB Premiers league are good-excellent. Chuck four of each team into a Grifball game, and it would be very exciting to watch because they know whats going on, what the objective is, and what the obstacle is, as well as vocal communication only. You wouldn't need to screen cheat because, hey, it's Grifball. Rectangular maps ftw.

That said, I'd be damned if either of these two scenarios ever happened.
