Subject: A new idea...

Every member of the Covenant shall walk the path. None will be left behind when our Great Journey begins. That is the Prophets' age-old promise, and it shall be fulfilled!

What if we could post pictures along with out posts? As long as it's related and follows the rules. Most forums I've been on do this, and it never seems to get out of control.

What do you all think?

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

Can't we already do this?

Isn't it just as easy to link them? It would most certainly get out of hand in The Flood.

  • 05.06.2012 12:33 PM PDT

I'd would say sure except there are to many sick minded people on the internet who would surely abuse such power.

We can't post pictures with our posts. I've only seen it done once by Deej I think.

Los Paranoias

There was a discussion on this recently, and the idea is that if we allow pictures, it will:

A. Clutter up our posts, and thus ruin the point of a forum.

B. Be very difficult to filter a picture. Even if we were to allow pictures, there would have to be an approval system in place, and that would take a lot more effort for something as trivial as a picture.

Bungie employees have the ability to embed a picture into their post, but that's it. More than that, and you risk too much.

Bungie.net is not an image board, it is a discussion forum. If your post really needs support from a picture, a link works just fine.

Also, Bungie.net does its best to maintain a certain visual/style appeal. Having embedded images, clutters the site and negatively draws form the visual appeal.

Easily abused...

It's not so much that it could be abused, it's that its unnecessary and would ruin the look of the forums. Hyperlinking works much better.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

Achronos says no because we aren't mature enough to embed images yet.

When will we be mature enough?

But with hyperlinking, it's easy to disguise bad things.
If that's your only reason to allow picture embeds, then by that logic, it's much easier to immediately display said "bad things" to the Bungie.net community.

But even still, the issue of "bad things" is next to irrelevant in this matter when there is only a chance of these incidents with "bad things" occurring. The real problem is with the fact that it would make the site look less professional. It has a certain feel to it and the color scheme/aesthetic look would be ruined if we had pictures popping up in every hot topic thread 10-15 times.

It's already jarring to look at it when employees post them. Seeing it on a regular basis would be straight-up ugly.

But it would help get OPs' main idea.

I love BBinliner. Makes it so much easier, don't even have to click for youtube links or pictures.

My Screenshots / My Group / Remember to follow the rules or you will get trapped in a box.

If you want your mental health to remain as good as it is now, then pictures should not be added. Adding a picture feature would be difficult.

Too bad that idea would look ugly then, isn't it? And why can't people just click a simple link? It isn't all that strenuous, is it? And do you realize how much of a strain that would put on B.net having to load all those pictures from external sources whenever they're present on a page?

The only way to really disguise bad links is to use a URL shortener; but even then you can make a guess as to whether or not you choose to click, by taking other things into account (recent join date, other peoples warnings, etc).

With imbedding images, you get no such chance, as the moment the image loads within someone's post you don't have a chance to not see it; so it'd be an easier option to be used by people posting NSFW to get a response by other users. I don't think you can block such images with ease either, as they can be circumvented with URL shortners, too.
