Bathed in plasma fire for 4 days sounds like a better reason for his armor being a different color then him getting new armor in the same amount of time. Simply put why would he get new armor mere days after geting his old new armor. If that were the case why not give him the new NEW armor in the first place? That is why it's not new armor it does'nt make sense. Upgrades to few parts maybe but not a whole new suit.

Bungie always has a story to tell.

And no, his shields keep the elements out. For those of us that have actually played Halo CE, you can remeber the fall damage... that impact on his outer shield caused it to pop.

BUT I will give in to say, that the mud on the boots can be explained by the lower shield power near his feet... That still doesn't explain why the dust is caked onto the rest of his suit.
