Subject: A better type of weekly challenge?

#1 Legendary ODST Firefight Highscore

[UNINTELLIGIBLE > INSUBORDINATION(?)]

What do you have in mind? I'm sure DeeJ is all ears.

Well, not all, but I do have two of them. And eyes. And a mouth, as well as fists.
Do you have arms to go with those fists?
And what about a head?

Scavenger hunt? Whomever can beat me in MTG gets a second place prize (I get the first because... come on now!)? I dunno. I'm not the creative one.

Done :P

Off topic: I did manage to build a few standard decks. So when you're on next we can play!

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

How about a weekly challenge where we have to draw pictures of obscure characters from Bungie games over 10 years old.

I thought it was pretty clear people are trying to stray away from drawing competitions.

I like to draw but This is no where as good as Ben's and others so yeah I kind of have to agree. :/

But it is may the best man or woman win. It is kind of a hard trade-off.

Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

How about DeeJ quotes something a fellow colleague said in the office that week, and we have to guess who said it.

How about whoever can do the most pushups wins. You have to film it for proof, and no looping footage.

How about...

How about...

How about we dig a moat!...

We can have people record themselves attempting the Cinnamon challenge?

Terrible idea. Not to shoot you down, but it's really bad for you.

Roll the dice, try again.

Whoever is the best dancer should obviously win. Videos must be submitted via YouTube.

Proud Virgo.

I can bang off a couple of ideas.

The most obvious one: A creative writing challenge, on some particular subject. Probably under 1000 words long so DeeJ can read through all the submissions.

A scavenger hunt, across the great, vast and horrible webs. Fairly long, and challenging, but not too bad.

A poetry one could be another idea, as a few people have said Haiku challenge. (I could get behind that!)

Best pet! (Post a recent pic, timestamped of your cutest/most badass animal companion. Or someone else's.)

The best pet one isn't as serious, but could be fun.

A potato sculpting contest!

...Yes.

I think instead of making different challenges, the rules of the current ones need to be followed. Last week's was to make a photo realistic depiction of the two factions duking it out. Only one of the final submissions we voted on met that requirement. Either that or it was worded badly.

*puts on patrician voice*

Hmph! Hmph! Clearly, you know nothing of photorealism. *French laugh*

We should know better, because we are better.

I like the idea of having several challenge themes that DeeJ rotates through. One day it can be drawing, another day it could be creative writing, another day it could be user created content (Things ranging from Reach maps to mods for other games), etc. I would allow for greater variety and for more people to participate.

  • 05.08.2012 5:22 PM PDT

some of the challenges are hard but you have to remember that some peoples weaknesses (like mine being campaign) are other peoples strong suits.

If it wasn't hard, it wouldn't be a challenge.

We would save a lot of money on shipping that way.

I have a challenge for you this week, submitted by a programmer. We will tackle creative writing some other time. Soon.

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

At the end of the day, the chance of winning something is slim no matter what the competition is. At least we get to see something awesome while we go down in flames.

Yes Costco. I need a 50lb bag...I mean sack of sugar.

Really, programming challenge? Why not choose something that everyone can win, but doesn't take 5 minutes to complete? I'm not a terrible artist, but I'm not on the level of the submissions last week. I have dabbled in programming, but not enough to get a job doing it.

The challenge needs to be something everyone can submit something but still requires a little bit of effort on our end. Making these skill dependent challenges leaves out a large chunk of the community. It seems unfair, especially when you gave up some serious swag on the last challenge.

Now that I am done whining, please take this into consideration.

He never said it was a programming challenge, just a challenge submitted by a programmer...

I like the challenges where the community can get inspired to create content, an illustration contest where ideas should be reward over skill would be nice, even badly done photoshops are hilarious with the right ideas. Something along those lines...
