Why not .org or .com?

#1 Legendary ODST Firefight Highscore

[UNINTELLIGIBLE > INSUBORDINATION(?)]

I thought .com was for commercial websites.

Because Achronos is lazy.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I would say it is this.

Spread the love...

I'm pretty sure Bungie also owns www.bungie.com but they use .net because .com implies Commercial Websites, like Remorazz said.

  • 05.08.2012 6:07 PM PDT

Correct me if I'm wrong but they are NOT bungie.org.

  • 05.08.2012 6:07 PM PDT

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.
~M.D~

It should be bungie.gov because they will soon be our new world goverment.

For Carnage Apply Within

They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think that they have foreseen everything, think that they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! — they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace
-Pádraig Anraí Mac Piarais

Pretty sure it's because it used to be a Myth/Marathon server.

Couldn't be; the site used to use Perl.

Because .net sounds cooler than .com, at least I think so.

Also, http://www.bungie.com/.

Join the Outer Haven group!

.com is usually for a company trying to sell something so they used .net to show it was for the community.

.com is for commercial website
.org is for organization website (That's like fundraiser and stuff)
.net is network website (This primary)
.gov is for government website.

I see it more as a network than a commercial site.

You forgot .mil. Those are the primary US domains, but I suppose you could also count .biz and .info.

Tom Achronos
Bungie.net Overlord
twitter: http://twitter.com/Achronos

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Bungie.com was originally our corporate site. When Myth came around, it had a matchmaking/chat service that we called "bungie.net". The web presence for that service (that hosted leaderboards and clans, but no forums) was www.bungie.net. It lived next to www.bungie.com, which was your standard company site.

After Halo was released, we decided to put everything in one place, and redirected bungie.com to www.bungie.net. That was probably more expediency than anything - bungie.net has dynamic content systems, the old bungie.com was completely static. And, if you think about it, .net is more appropriate - this site's primary purpose is as a social network (yeah, I said it) for our fans.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten
