I never thought I'd see the day that Achronos called b.net a social networking site.

Next thing you know, they will be including smilelies!

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

-Master Chief

Social site, never would of thought. But .net is different from other game website which makes bungie.net a unique website.

Bungie.com was originally our corporate site. When Myth came around, it had a matchmaking/chat service that we called "bungie.net". The web presence for that service (that hosted leaderboards and clans, but no forums) was www.bungie.net. It lived next to www.bungie.com, which was your standard company site.

After Halo was released, we decided to put everything in one place, and redirected bungie.com to www.bungie.net. That was probably more expediency than anything - bungie.net has dynamic content systems, the old bungie.com was completely static. And, if you think about it, .net is more appropriate - this site's primary purpose is as a social network (yeah, I said it) for our fans.

I've always wondered about that. Thanks for clarifying.

Why?

I'm not the one that irrationally freaks out when people suggest things that Facebook does, you guys do.

Bungie.net has been a social/community network since it was created. That's the point.

It was invalid before.

And from this day on, the argument "Bungie isn't a social networking site" just became invalid.

I think that 'freakout' happens because Facebook has grown to the point where it's consumned peoples lives and (I think) most people just want to avoid seeing any association between the two sites, since they serve two distinct groups of people.

I prefer .net but now I know :)

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Why are people looking at Bungie in the same light as Facebook just because it's been mentioned that it's a social networking site, there are many forms of social networking beyond facebook that operate with different functions in mind. It's just not the same kind of of social networking many people are used to when that term springs to mind.

It's a bit obvious given the amount of interaction that some form of social networking is at hand.

Bungie.net is facebook.

Does anyone even read these?

Why is everyone freaking out about what Achronos said? It was all very common knowledge which I'm pretty sure everyone agreed on.

Same Reason Battle.net Is Called Battle.net.

  • 05.09.2012 6:22 PM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Bungie.net is facebook.

So because Bungie.net connects thousands of people who want to meet and discuss it is bad? Bungie.net is a SOCIAL NETWORK for all Bungie fans. Facebook =/= every social network.

Forums are a social network, they connect people and Bungie.net's are some of the best.
