Many people have suggested a pelican in multiplayer for larger maps.
However if a pelican were spawned on blood gulch (with 16 players) the game would go like this:
1. everyone boards pelican
2. fly to base in 0.2 seconds
3. land
4. kill everyone with your rush of 8 players.
5. take the flag/bomb the base.
6. retreat back in 0.3 seconds.
Thats why its a bad idea.
To satiate the ever-present fans of the pelican idea, i think that bungie could add a VERY small version of a pelican (with a completely different design of course. this probably could only be used on a VERY large map, with 16 players, playing an assault/one flag ctf gametype.

Yeah I agree a level would have to be super huge to fit a Pelican in to be able to manuever and turn around. And yes you could storm a base pretty easy get 8 sword wielding guys in the back and kill them lots.

tis why you dont do it on a map with 16 people like blood gulch, but on a map thats bigger and can support 32 people as has been hinted.....

Well, if the level were an island for like CTF or bomb, the pelican would be the offensive dropship and ...well, that could work. It's been done with America's Army.

Which is why they never included the Pelican in Halo 2. But for the 360, I think we can expect massively expansive maps. Maybe the Pelican can be put to good use?

I think the multiplayer maps in Halo need more vehicles in general- it doesn't matter to me what they are. Part of what makes Halo so fun is vehicle combat, and the idea of two teams loading up in vehicles to take each other on. I think the respawn times are definitely too low- I spend half of the match running to the other side of the map on some of the larger boards, only to get sniped or killed as soon as I touch the flag. The only exciting times come when there are vehicles. Hopefully Halo 3 will have some fun, workable additions that give players the ability to cross the map more quickly, in a way that doesn't ruin the overall gameplay or feel of Halo.

Having the Pelican in Halo 3's Multiplayer would be horrible because if somebody in a Pelican tried to run somebody over, the person on the ground would be pretty much boned. Games in which crashing into the ground with a vehicle would kill somebody may be able to handle huge aerial vehicles, but I don't think that Halo 3 should change something so important in it's physics engine just to support a vehicle that would be unbalanced anyway.

i doubt any of you have played the game Operation Flashpoint. but that is the epitimy of mega maps and vehicles.. its has a HUMUNGOUS island full of your classic towns mountains and roads.. if they can incorporate that into H3 kinda "death Island" from Halo PC then the pelican would fit right in!. they CAN do it its just the question if they want to take the chance.. cuz frankly i think vehicle combat beats the classic duals from a map like lockout

I think it would work quite well to have a pelican just give it some weaknesses and limits such as only hold 5 people. if any weapons not powerful, and passengers can be easily killed by 1-2 rockets

yeah you'd need a really big map for use of a dropship. we'd need battlefeild 2 size maps.

The pelican would be perfect for huge 64 player maps
it could hold:
6 passengers
1 gunner
1 pilot
a total of 8 people out of the 32 on your team if it's a 64 player game with 2 teams
also 2 rockets would be 2 easy 2 take it out i'm thinking that depending where you hit it you could take out 1-2 passengers and the whole thing would go down if you hit the front where the pilot would be loacated

Halo CE > Halo 3 > Halo 2

Fix the Halo 3 BR spread, plz.

The Pelican will ruin Halo's obkective games if put in. Then noone would want to use anything else, and noone would be running on foot or using any vehicles.

it might work if there are 32 people ( 16 on 1 team) one pelican wich can fit 8 people

Put it in and make it so it dies in like 4 rockets. But, make it so it never Respawns after its destroyed. Then, people would think twice before just charging in with a Pelican loaded full of people.

i personally loVE big team battle and have been payin close attention to the various options bungie can do for big team enthusiasts.

first off is expanding it, like u guys said. currently 8 v 8 is max, but most believe that H3 is gonna have 16 v 16

now being the big team player that i am, i notice that you either have a group that is dedicated to winning or a group that has players who'll take the bomb, put it out of reach, and proceed to do a mexican sombrero dance around each other. should bungie put a pelican in, im sure we'll have that one dumba$$ who'll take it buy himself and turn it over to the other team, but in the right team's hands, it could revolution the game. im a defensive player so defending against a rush of 8 isnt gonna be easy, but it will be cool. he11, i say go wit it. the pelicans can also carry heavy vehicles (scorp, warthog) so that could add another sweet aspect. cant wait to see wut bungie can do

they could get ideas from planetside. lots of vehicles, large maps, as in huge maps. if u havent played it, try it its for pc. it is so awsome.
