I really don't understand why people want the Pelican in multiplayer anyways. There would be no point for it to be included. What Bungie will probably do is have MC use the Pelican in Campaign for some reason (escaping, saving people, etc.). If Bungie puts it in multiplayer, then they will probably make it extremely slow, with limited/no ammunition.

A pelican on a huge map would be fine. Just because it is difficult to kill with Halo 2 weapons doesn't mean bungie won't put turrets on bases that could shoot it down or a more effective anti-vehicle weapon (it can't get much better than the rocket launcher though)

it might work if there are 32 people ( 16 on 1 team) one pelican wich can fit 8 people

on a map like hidden from bf2mc for x360

If u actually look inside the pelican it has 10 seats not including pilot seats which it actualy has 12 all together.

If they DO include Pelicans in multiplayer, then DON'T USE THEM!

Many people have suggested a pelican in multiplayer for larger maps.
However if a pelican were spawned on blood gulch (with 16 players) the game would go like this:
1. everyone boards pelican
2. fly to base in 0.2 seconds
3. land
4. kill everyone with your rush of 8 players.
5. take the flag/bomb the base.
6. retreat back in 0.3 seconds.
Thats why its a bad idea.
To satiate the ever-present fans of the pelican idea, i think that bungie could add a VERY small version of a pelican (with a completely different design of course. this probably could only be used on a VERY large map, with 16 players, playing an assault/one flag ctf gametype.

I'm with you all the way. I think a Pelican may seem good on paper, but IN game it would take away from the game play in a big way.

Halo 3 isnt the next Unreal game.

I feel you are wrong. When the Pelican is in the final game I will be very happy. More than 16 players will be in Halo 3 BTW...

EDIT: Sorry dude.. I didnt read the end about a smaller ver. of the Pelican. I like that idea 2.

If the maps get any bigger than they are now (and I already think they are too huge), then something needs to happen with the vehicles. Either they spawn much much much quicker, or there are many more of them, or there are newer ones that can transport more players at a higher frequency. As of right now, there is too much downtime running across gigantic maps. I don't want the game to be super crazy fast paced- Halo isn't always like that. But it definitely gets old, and a tad on the slow side when you're on foot in a place like Containment or Waterworks. I hardly ever play those maps anymore for that reason.

Pelican in Multiplayer : YES

We didn't mean big maps as in coagonlation. We mean, well at least I mean big maps like Outskirts, or delta halo kind of big. A pelican on coagolation would just be pointless. Plus, if the only weapon was the turret on the back, and it was only good for transporting people, the pelican would rock !

Ya, sorry for another post, but ya, a smaller version of the pelican would be sweet. Only able to hold 4 people or something ?

But nothing is cooler than the pelican !

How about a level of islands where the pelican or phantom are the keys to survival!

the pelican would be great to have as an option. the more vehicles the better, because i dont think that having the option to use it would hurt anybody. alot of people never even bother to consider using a spectre but it doesnt hurt to have the choice. ofcourse, to make a vehicle like the pelican worthwhile it would have to have advantages and disadvantages.

EXAMPLES:

1.the pelican can transport large numbers of players at once, but is slow to manuever and take off making it susceptable to attack while loading and unloading troops
2.once airborne the pelican would be a nearly unstoppable behemoth with its turrets and passengers firing at enemies below, but the pilot could be taken out by a snipers bullet, or a well placed rocket to the cockpit, bringing the plane crashing to the ground and injuring, or killing everyone on board.

I think it would be cool, it would have to be balanced like the choppers in BF2:MC though

Also, I could see the Pelican doubling as a Warthog or Scorpion transport- man, how freaking cool would that be in multiplayer? 16-32 people on a single team sitting in a Zanzibar-style fort... a Pelican dropship approaches and drops a warthog full of Spartans on the ground as it goes bouncing over hills and firing its turrets? I think I would pass out from how cool that would be :)

Verbose, as usual.

A vehicle that could drop off more than one person, and effectively provide cover fire would be nice.
Pilot flying?
Tandem Gunner to operate a nose gun that works like the Warthog's does now?
A couple passengers (can they shoot out the back?
A guy that works that .50 cal in the tail (think outskirts)?
Attach a Warthog or Scorpion tank underneath a-la BF Vietnam? (no tailgun)

Kills the nose gunner or the tail gunner (depending on where the rocket locks onto and hits?)
Kills the pilot and starts a sort of crashing effect on the second rocket impact? (leaves any survivors shieldless upon impact with the ground)?
Third rocket (after reload) destroys the vehicle and any attached vehicles?

If a downed Pelican, one that crashes with no pilot, but is not completely destroyed, had that operational door gun, and a few spilled weapon lockers (to serve as a cool little base) that would make my day.

I want to fly the pelican in campaign... but in multiplayer it would be nice if nobody controled the pelican and it just dropped of the players on their base... and then fly away...

the pelican and other transports would work if halo were a more MMO type of game.

And it's your connection that's slower than turtle sex.

In........................................................Out .

If people needed to make the pelican balanced so people wont just use it to run over people, why not make it extremely easy to Hijack if it's close enough?

  • 06.05.2006 2:27 AM PDT

Q. What do you get when you add 1 man, 1 car, and 1 rocket built for a jet?

A. A black smudge on the side of a cliff.

WHA?!? No way! For one, that statistic would be in the OLD Coag. In the new one, (Which would be a few square miles) might take about 2 minutes.

a lot of people are saying that it wouldn't work.
But i think it will! if we look at other video games with transport vehicles we will see that they work fantastically. Battlefield2 for example has a transport copter which works great and it doesn't dominate the game and it's not crap like one might believe it to be.
if a pelican was like a flying scorpian without the guns then it would make it fit in with the rest of the game. (you know, when the marines are always trying to clear a landing zone for the pelican)
And also there could be a covenentcounterpart with guns but it has a smaller capacity or is weaker

what do you think?

To everyone who says a pelican would be unbalanced:

A pelican is a bird, and bird's naturally most competent balance comes during flight. But in halo, the balance could come from the lack of flight. The pelican should exist, and be fully pilotable, and during flight it would be pretty unstoppable, but it's during the intermissions in which the pelican would have to land and turn asround, etc. that would balance the pelican out. If the pelican was slow at turning and could only fire from behind, as well as a moderately extensive landing procedure, it would be easier to blow the thing out of the sky, so here's how the pelican would REALLY work.

1. Game starts, people board pelican
2. Pelican arrives to opposite base in 30 seconds - 1 minute
3. Defending team fire several rockets at Pelican
4. Pelican attempts to steer out of the way
5. Attacking team attempts to run off the back of Pelican and survive
6. Pelican is destroyed and about three people get off and away from the explosion. one guy or two are crushed by the shrapnel.
7. the remaining men engage in a firefight, and the chances are the majority defending team would win, allowing them to attack their base instead.
