Welcome to the internet. Joy dies here.
First of all, I pull b.net stats because I hate 343's website, and it runs like -blam!-.
MLG obviously isn't dead - I'm just frustrated that it has a mediocre population. I don't see why it hasn't drawn more players back. I play solo, so low population usually means I get really bad matches, skill-wise. I know nobody believes there's trueskill in Reach, but there is, and it's very similar to Halo 3's. Just far less strict. I wish I could adjust my trueskill strictness, but afaik the player pref settings just look for other players with that player pref.
But my point, which I suppose was a little unclear, was that playlists with much better bloom/AA situations are underpopulated and complained about just as much. You can blame that on Reach's history, or you can blame it on competing games, but it comes down to the fact that 343 are trying to give us what we want, but all they accomplished is a huge increase in the complaining and a series of minor population increases that each lasted for all of a day or two. I was really excited about Classic in CEA. I got it at launch, took it home and went online. I figured the population was low because not a lot of people had it yet, but it never really got that much higher. I mean it was up for a few days, but after that, it was back to the 1-2k/playlist, and <1k off-peak. Until they pulled Squad, Classic wasn't even the biggest population in the hopper.
