Halo doesnt kill flood, it kills all life in the galaxy so the flood cannot feed on them, it effectively starves them to death

the reason the flood doesn't die from Halo is because they aren't sentient life forms. Halo only kills sentient life forms, or more easily said, their food.

hes right. btw, heres the definition of sentient:

Having sense perception; conscious: “The living knew themselves just sentient puppets on God's stage” (T.E. Lawrence).
Experiencing sensation or feeling.

The Forerunner kept some flood alive.

The Flood were also kept dormant.

Perhaps Flood aren't sentient?

He's half right. Halo kills ALL life, sentient or otherwise, with sufficient biomass to sustain the flood, specifically calcium deposits. All Flood that were not on the Halo's DID die. The ones on the Halos survived because they were in stasis.
I know this even without reading the books. And this doesn't have anything to do with H3 that I can see.

I guess it depends on your definition of "starve." Someone can have AIDS, but you can keep it from spreading if you tried hard enough. AIDS isn't going to "starve," though.

That is exactly it... think about it, the Flood are like a nasty virus, one that mutates the body and brings about the most primitive instincts of life, feed and reproduce. Think of the T-virus from Resident Evil, but the flood are a biological organism that PHYSICALLY mutates the host body. And one thing about even host-less viruses is they can remain dormant for a VERY long time. So basically, if you really want to think about it, the Flood are a virus in a sense.

I am...whimsical today.

So the little infection forms are not affected by the Halo pulse? Or do you think its the spore type things, like the one floating around at the very end of Halo 2?

The T-Virus does physically mutate its victims.

You face an opponent who has never known defeat, who laughs in foreign tongues at your efforts to survive. This is Reply suicide.

"Oh Molly Connoly ruined my life, I thought the world should know."
Say Anything - Every Man Has A Molly

Um... The Halos don't "boom boom" everything. They have WAVE PULSE generators. So, it's a wave... Sound or a beam or SOMETHING like that. You know that from playing the FIRST GAME. And the fact that it has a RADIUS indicates it's probably a wave of some form. How it targets only specific things falling into a small category.... I have no idea.

The weapon targets and destroys anything with sufficient cognative capability (to quote 343 Guilty Spark) OR biomass to support the Flood.

If it can't be taken over to make more Flood, it can be used as food for them. That's why the Biomass factor... And that's why the sentient life factor.

And the Flood ARE hard to kill. In the first one, the only weapons that seemed to be effective were human ones. And the Shotgun was the only thing that put them down and kept them there... Plasma weapons (which mostly came from the Forerunners) are all but useless against them... Until we got the sword. It kills them dead.

Think about it... They're made entirely of flesh... And yet BURNING them with Plasma isn't very effective... And only SHREDDING them seems to work well? And even then, they sometimes don't stay down, or they'll just heal themselves...

Anything that can't be made into a combat form, or any combat form that has been too damaged to fight, turns into a Carrier form.

The Forerunners just decided that they had no real sure-fire way to kill the Flood effectively, all at once, across the galaxy... So they made the Halos and kill all their food. And to take an assumption I got from the book "Starhammer", the Forerunners jumped ahead in time, to a time when the Flood no longer existed at all.

And Cortana says it in the first game... "The only way to BEAT the Flood, is to starve them to death."

maybe earth is the ark and when the master cheif activates the halos and kills everything, the forerunners will appear on earth. and everythings groovy. except then the gravemind has all the information on how to get to earth and has the capability.

The forerunners will appear on Earth.
What makes you think that?
