Competitive nature.

Same reason im successful outside the game as well

Define "successful".

You're all bad.

How about GM at the age of 20, maybe 21 depending how long the training takes, and only 2 years with the company?

Enjoy life as middle management in an irrelevant company.

The only thing higher is franchisee in this company.

And it doesnt matter to me. I am doing the exact thing I want to do. Maybe in the future ill become a franchisee myself, or move to another company.

The difference between you and me is, my parents didnt pay my way through life. Everything iv done, and will do will have been because I earned it.

You get sent through private schools and have your college paid for. So go ahead and possibly make more money than I do, my self worth will be higher no matter how much you make.

Because this game is competitive?

Whatever you have to tell yourself to get by 9-5 is fine by me. Someone has to do it.

Need to troll better though. You're on b.net. You have stiff competition. Life checking on the Internet when all you really are is a faceless stranger isn't useful, bro. Whatever you say you are, you're just text on a screen. Gotta attack the personal level more.

Anyway, OT: I take the game as seriously as I do (which isn't that seriously, but I do try to win) because I enjoy winning and even if it's just virtual, it's still a blast to out-perform another team.

It's not like you are getting paid to win or do well. Your "stats" aren't going to help you in any way in life. What even more baffles me is when someone gets called "bad", they take serious offense to it. I mean if someone told me I am bad (which I'm pretty bad), I couldn't give a flying two -blam!-s on it. You guys go as far to criticize your teammates for not being on your level, and then RAGE when your teammates lose the game for you. You guys attack someone for using a certain tactic, and then continue to RAGE in anger. I am pretty sure mosst of you play to escape the many stresses from life, but by playing this game, you are creating even MORE stress for yourself.

So let me ask you the question again....Why do you guys take this game so seriously?

This is a good topic OP, not just applying to reach but everything in life really with how some people act towards others.

People do this in every game not just Reach. Halo 3 it's super bad even to this day. A 5 year old game there are still those that act like they are the best thing in the world, it's quite hilarious and sad all at the same time. I even once had an entire group of people spam my xbox inbox while I was live streaming Halo 3 because I was 'bad' when in reality I was still winning my matches with the best k/d in the match. I said to my viewers "isn't it sad that at 1am on a friday night these losers are spamming the inbox of a player they have never met or play against?" Everyone in my chat started laughing and the spamming stopped right there =) Trolls be gone lol

Some ppl have nothing better to do than troll or have this sort of superiority elitist complex as I like to call it where they think everyone who doesn't play like them, is as good as them, or has a single bad game is terrible at games. Even MLG pros make major mistakes at times yet those elitist never seem to out them in the same category as everyone else. Elitists like that are going to be in anything in life. Not just video games but sports, jobs, cars, brands, you name it. There will always be that group of -blam!-s who think they are the best or have the best of whatever it may be and everyone else is garbage. Basically elitists in video games expect everyone to be MLG pro skilled and if not they get all angry which is total nonsense in unreasonable to expect.

So what to do about them? ignore them and forget about them. They can spout how amazing they think they are but we don't care. I tell the Halo trolls that come in my live stream to shut up or be banned and go stream themselves if they think they are so good. That shuts them up real fast because I don't tolerate idiots who have nothing good to say =)If they think I am so bad then how come they are wasting their time in MY stream telling me to play a different way. They should stream themselves so they can prove to everyone how l33t they are to the world.

I will say that for 99.9% of the people in this world being good at video games doesn't matter in life in terms of monetary value at least. Unless you are MLG pro OR you are a game tester you are most likely not going to make a steady income or be able to use 'skill' in videos games to support a family or life really. Even MLG pros don't earn that much when the game they played is no longer at a tournament. After a few years they have to move on in life and get another job outside of gaming.

As for those that like personal stats tracking, being competitive, and like to win game on! Nothing wrong with wanting to do well all the time. It's only bad when you start saying everyone else is bad and use your 'skill' to judge others that care not about being judged.

Overall people just like to be competitive or compare eachother no matter what it is to an extreme degree. Best thing to do is ban, block, and ignore trash like them. They can spout all they want about how bad you are but really it doesn't mean a thing. They are empty words coming from an insecure child who really does need to get a life lol

If you don't care about it then why did you make this thread?

Because I'm a sore loser and I hate failing something I know I didn't give it all I had.

That isn't just for games, it's for my life in general.

It's a thing called competitiveness. Ever hear of it? I could ask the same thing to you if you happen to be a sports fan.

Sometime I really want to win, but most I just enjoy playing it. Almost to pestilence! 250,000 to go!!

Why even bother, really?
I rage.

Maybe its because people don't like loosing?
I play quite a lot of football(soccer) and even though the matches I play are mainly for fun, I hate loosing.

I find it difficult to have fun while getting roflstomped by the enemy team because xxxDanthemanxxx3785 decides he's going to charge ar's blazing into gunfights, dying repeatedly.

This wouldn't be as big an issue if there was any sort of working trueskill system in the game. But ofcourse bad players don't want a system that tells them they are bad so bungie gives us reach.

it's more to fun to win than to lose

sunday league football teams play for fun but they don't go out onto the pitch and say 'right boys, lets mess about and see how much we can lose this one by'

also this

bad players don't want to be told they're bad, they want to be rewarded and showered with 'good job, keep it up' so bungie implemented a system which means you win and your rank increases whether you win or lose because bad players didnt want to accept that they sucked. ironically those tend to be the people saying 'why do you care so much it's just a game why do you try so hard?' - if it's just a game why can't they accept that they suck?

The competition is fun, but if I lose I don't get mad at people I play with (or at least not for very long).

I only get upset if people are dicking around, like betraying, griefing, cheating, etc.

At the end of the day it's just a video game and if I'm not having fun doing what I like I wont play it.

Two makes there more than speakers.

I like to see myself improve, and I find it fun to challenge myself. I can't do that in Loling Dead.

Posting here and not in FT doesn't mean you're NOT evading your work, scrub.

Also, Bungie implemented that system back in H3 with playlist XP and whatnot.

I don't entirely disagree with the XP ranks in the sense that they DO allow people to see how long others have played. Besides, you have easy access to one's KD while playing Reach too so telling skill is pretty easy.

Were Arena implemented via W/L (like how it is now) and done in more playlists, I think Reach's ranks would be fine.
